Destiny 2 Ash and Iron Update Highlights

Back in early May, Bungie outlined their plans for the launch of the Fate Saga and the Year of Prophecy roadmap. Large and in bold at the top were the names and logos of the two paid expansions, The Edge of Fate and Renegades. However, just below that was a lot more information on the specific seasonal structure, including a mid-season refresh they are calling Major Updates.

Bungie detailed the differences between expansions and major updates to help us have a clearer understanding of what we'd be receiving and when. Expansions are paid experiences that include new stories, new locations, new missions, new weapons, new gear, and new in-game activities like raids and dungeons. Whereas major updates will be free to all players and will include new and reprised activities, new sandbox meta updates, new events, new modifiers and challenges, and finally new gear and artifact mods. The major update for the Edge of Fate is called Ash and Iron and is launching on September 9th.

Today, I'm bringing you the first of two planned videos that will break down everything that's coming with the launch of Ash and Iron and exactly how you can prepare for it. Whether you've played every day since the Edge of Fate released, or you simply played enough to try out the new raid and bounced off the game, these videos will make sure you're up to date on the need to know details. I hope you're ready, because here we go. Key #1: Play this week's Heavy Metal event to get the brand new sword and shotgun.

At Weekly Reset on Tuesday, September 2nd, the Heavy Metal event will return. Heavy Metal is the custom Crucible party game mode harkening back to the glory days of Halo 2, where you are placed on a team of either drivable Brigs or Tanks and tasked with defeating other players and picking up the coins that they drop on the ground. Though this is a bit of a funny game mode that's mostly intended to be taken lightly as a fun time to relax and just blow stuff up, Bungie has sneakily placed some very intriguing loot along its rewards pass. First, we'll see the return of our third spawnable vehicle type, the Griffon, which has the ability to fire projectiles that can also apply the elemental effects of whatever subclass you have equipped. It's hard to pull a Guardian away from their skimmers, but this vehicle comes close.

If you missed out on unlocking this the last time Heavy Metal was around, make sure to pick it up this time. Next, we see the introduction of a new legendary sword that you do not want to miss: Sinansia. This weapon is special as a one-of-a-kind solar waveframe that also has the highly sought-after perk, Eager Edge. Some roles that I'm on the hunt for are Attrition Orbs and Sharp Harvest in the first column, and Eager Edge, Chain Reaction, or Burning Ambition in the second column.

Bungie has said that if you reach level 10 in the Heavy Metal Pass, you'll receive the holofoil version of this weapon. So make sure to crank it up to 11 this week and make some stuff go BOOM! If you want to go even further, you can receive the new Rapid Fire Slug Shotgun, Trachiness, in its holofoil skin by reaching level 15 of the Heavy Metal Pass. Though the verdict's still out on how meta-defining this weapon will be, it's never a bad idea to snag those elusive holofoils when they're readily available. Real quick, if you're enjoying this video and want to continue to receive updates like this in the future, maybe like and subscribe to the channel.

It helps a ton and lets me know that you want more content just like this. Key #2: Finish any seasonal challenges from the first half of Season of Reclamation. With the release of Ash and Iron, Bungie is giving us a brand new set of seasonal challenges and a new rewards pass to apply that XP towards. In the twit on August 21st, Bungie reminded players to finish up their reward passes, stating, "The current list of seasonal challenges will reset when Ash and Iron arrives on September 9th, so this is a general call for everyone that's aiming to earn some extra Bright Dust and XP. Complete them soon." Be sure to go through and complete and claim as many seasonal challenges as possible from the first half of Season of Reclamation to receive their associated rewards before the new pass is released on September 9th.

Key #3: If you're feeling burnt out by the Power Grind, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. One final tip from someone who could not personally be bothered to try to chase the Power Grind beyond 400: In Ash and Iron, Bungie is raising the available gear level all the way up to 550. With this, we will see an immense easing of the challenge to climb the ranks and reach those high tier rewards that we all crave. On September 9th, the new soft power cap will be raised all the way up to 500, which will be achieved by receiving regular rewards from portal activities, and the new hard cap, aka SoloObs Grindfest from Hell, will take place from 500 to 550. Bungie has said those who reach 500 power will be rewarded with regular drops of the highest tier of weapons and armor, Tier 5. If you're feeling burnt out on the grind of 450, I say take a step back, catch a breather, maybe go outside or call your loved ones that you've been neglecting. We all know the cell service is terrible in the mines of Caldera. Come back refreshed and ready to experience the new update and everything that Ash and Iron has in store for us.

Let me leave you with one last bonus tip. If you're chasing top tier loot, but finding it difficult to complete higher tier activities all by yourself, join my community discord and post in the LFG chat to find others that are in a similar place to you. We have many members of our community who simply enjoy helping others, and I will often shout out in the server when I'm doing help streams live on Twitch or YouTube and pull people in directly from chat to help unlocking things like Outbreak Perfected, Choir of One, or maybe even the exotic class items. The link for the discord will be in the description below, and if you need a clan or a group of people to join, I urge you, come hang out with us.

Is there anything I left off my list that you think should be included? If so, make sure to drop it in the comment section below. And while you're down there, maybe leave a like or subscribe if this video helped you at all. Thank you so much for watching, and until next time, be blessed, y'all.

On September 9th, Bungie will be releasing their first "Major Update" titled, Ash & Iron which will provide us with a suite of activity changes, sandbox updates, and a return to the Destiny 1 Fan Favorite location, The Plaguelands.

There is one week of Destiny before we head full force into this update, so today's video is breaking down exactly what Guardians should know and remember to prepare fully for this update to release!
