Overview

The video offers a detailed preview of Kepler, the new destination in Destiny 2's "Edge of Fate" expansion, discussing its design, gameplay mechanics, story elements, and unanswered questions. The creator compares Kepler to previous expansions and highlights new content features, secrets, and activities based on available gameplay footage and official information.

Kepler Destination Design & Inspiration

  • Kepler features a mix of external Martian-like spaces and internal Fallen-inspired architecture.

  • The environment draws inspiration from Metroidvania-style exploration, with secrets and objectives akin to the Dreadnaught.

  • Visual elements include striking skyboxes, interactive objects, and wildlife, adding to the destination's immersion.

Gameplay Mechanics & Activities

  • Destination abilities are introduced as world mechanics, offering replayable secrets and new ways to explore.

  • Interactable nodes, overlay icons, and evolving world tiers are designed to unlock more secrets over time.

  • Kepler is confirmed as an explorable public space, rather than being locked to linear progression.

Story Elements & Characters

  • The expansion includes a less linear campaign, with seven or eight main missions and diverging side quests unlocked after each.

  • Players will interact with vendors like Ikora (now with a new voice actor) and Loi throughout the destination.

  • The Aeonians are introduced as the resident race on Kepler, with key locations acting as hubs.

Enemies, Loot, and Replayability

  • New enemy variants, including flying Fallen (Corsa) and strand-infused foes, are presented.

  • Early gameplay shows returning loot types and the introduction of craftable exotics such as the Graviton Spike hand cannon.

  • Reward systems for solo and playlist activities are more elective, clarifying potential loot before participation.

Live Events & Special Activities

  • Upcoming events like "Arms Week" are teased, promising new weapons and event currencies.

  • Previously unused areas on existing planets are repurposed for new lost sectors and activities.

Remaining Questions & Uncertainties

  • Matchmaking details for Kepler activities are not yet confirmed.

  • The existence and design of a core, farmable destination activity remain unclear.

  • Further clarification is needed regarding public world features, collectible materials, and lore delivery methods.

Decisions

  • Kepler will feature evolving world tiers unlocking new secrets.

  • Campaign structure will be less linear with optional side quests after main missions.

  • Loot rewards will be shown before engaging in certain activities for player clarity.

Questions / Follow-Ups

  • Will Kepler include a core destination activity similar to previous expansions?

  • Will full matchmaking be available for Kepler activities?

  • How significant is the role of Aeonians and Loi in the main storyline?

  • What other secrets and post-campaign content will be available on Kepler?

Kepler Destination Preview

what's up guys hound here and today we're jumping in with another destiny 2 video in this one i actually wanted to take a better look at kepler the new destination in edge of fate as i kind of feel like versus other expansion reveals that we've had bungie have really spoken a lot about the system changes coming to destiny 2 but probably a bit less about the actual expansion you know when we had the final shape we got juicy trailers showing story components cinematic elements the world as well as the gameplay components and things like the exotic class items but bungie have given us a much kind of sketchier view of edge of fate itself this time around despite that some of the previews that we've had actually show us some pretty cool stuff on kepler and give us a better idea of the destination overall as obviously with this being a key part of edge of fate the quality of the destination is going to be of significant importance in terms of how much players actually enjoy the new content drop so after you've watched the video you'll have to let me know are you excited for kepler or do you feel like this is a destination you're going to end up sleeping on on the subject of rest though this video is sponsored by a brand with a mission to improve sleep quality regular naps and rest for everybody and it's manta sleep mant produce a range of leading sleep masks and of course many of us have difficulties with sleep not least now that days are longer in the summer months i can totally relate to this especially now that we have daylight for so many hours of the day even when we're exhausted the world can be so stimulating that we find it hard to shut off so mantis sleep sent me their sleep mask sound a while back and this is highly adjustable super comfortable sleep mask which produces a 100% blackout with plenty of padding plus it has cooling perforated foam and the unique feature of this mask is its bluetooth audio function so if you find that you sleep better when listening to chill music podcasts or audio books whatever it may be this is an absolute gamecher as you can use it anywhere without disturbing others and the audio quality is awesome too another favorite of mine though are the mantis sleep cool eye cups which help to alleviate eye irritation and can relieve sinus pressure as well as help to mitigate mild headaches all in all mantis sleep have given me some of the best sleep i've had for a long time so if you have issues sleeping this summer or if you're bothered by light and noise i totally recommend that you check out mantisleep products by following the link in the description and pinned comment plus if you use code houndish you'll get 10% off your order in the store so don't miss out all of the details are linked below and thanks to mant to sleep for sponsoring the video now though getting into the video i wanted to look at a bunch of previews of edge of fate i didn't actually get any hands-on time with the expansion myself but this is from gamespot showing a bunch of gameplay in different areas it's actually one of the more interesting videos in terms of seeing some of the stuff that we can find on kepler we have seen a lot of gameplay of the first mission right here kepler kind of reminds me of a bunch of different things we've already seen in destiny in the past you know the external spaces remind me a little bit of mars but then the internal areas a lot of fallen architecture here remind me a bit more of kind of like the tangled shore or something like that bungie has spoken a lot about the kind of metroid vania inspiration for this destination i quite enjoyed having a lot of sort of objectives and secrets and things to find on the dreadnaugh it looks like kepler is going to be something similar obviously with a different scope one of the ways that bungie are making that component of it more interesting i guess is with the destination abilities which certainly are not a good replacement for actual new guardian abilities but can build into the space in some interesting ways there's a pretty cool clip that we can see right here on kepler in this kind of external section with a bunch of kind of fallen architecture once again there are some interactable nodes like that one they've actually blurred out the uh text right there or the dialogue but we can see this kind of weird overlay on the screen with nineesque icons i'm not sure if this will be purely a storytelling component or something which is more heavily linked to gameplay and finding secrets on the destination obviously as we can see here we're going to run into loi in a bunch of different areas on the destination i am definitely curious to check out the character overall there'll be a bunch of chests like we can see here where we can answer the call and i believe this will be uh some of the ways that we'll actually interact with those destination abilities also on the side of the screen we can see things like objective nearby and mystery solved popping up so this is what bungie have teased a whole bunch and they've also said specifically that we'll be able to revisit kepler on varying world tiers which will actually unlock new secrets now back on the dreadnord of course there were so many secrets and things which may or may not pop up this is a cool cut scene by the way that we can see here with one of the main enemies i would assume for edge of fate that fallen captain with an interesting strand weapon but yeah it actually became kind of hard going back to the dreadnaugh thing and tracking some of the secrets and mysteries there in some instances it was kind of tricky keeping up with you know things you've done or not done yet so i'm hoping they find ways to make that more trackable in edge of fate without sort of spoiling the mystery of it i guess the good thing versus the dreadnaugh though is that this is actually an explorable destination best we can tell and we won't be locked to going through you know specific sections of it at a time we can see the destination abilities a whole bunch of times right here some of them look pretty fun uh i don't think like i said it's not a replacement for abilities themselves but as world mechanics or activity mechanics which really uh is what they end up being they could be pretty interesting again as we kind of revisit kepler looking for secrets and mysteries and things like that it may become a bit more jarring having to use these abilities numerous times to go into the same areas that we've visited previously we see the teleport right there as well i guess it's going to be interesting to see whether particular areas of the destination actually evolve and don't need to be reopened numerous times for instance we can see some mysteries or objectives will require specific things that one said requires quantum substance that we're actually missing so looks like there'll be a bunch of replayability in this area hopefully and i think it was scarrow that said in terms of the actual campaign there'll be sort of seven or eight main missions but every time we complete one of the core missions it will unlock a series of different side quests and things like that but the story itself is going to be less linear than what we've had in the past and more open to sort of player choice in terms of which direction we go and things like that another little sideline here but we can see one of the old black armory forge areas on nessus actually being turned into a loss sector here i think bungie have partially done this to support the new playlists like solo ops as these will factor into that playlist a little bit one of the nice things about the portal and activities in general for newer players or solo players is that the rewards look like they will be much more kind of elective and actually tell us you know what we're going to get from a certain thing before we go ahead and do it which to an extent is going to be useful for newer players obviously that might be felt a little bit less by existing players here there is a salt mines lost sector as well which is pretty neat bungie had specifically said a few months ago that they wanted to reuse or use areas that they hadn't sort of taken advantage of for long periods of time in destiny especially when we look at edz there are massive areas which we just haven't visited because there's no real reason to do so a little side note here not specifically tied to kepler itself but here's a reward chest for one of these solo ops loss sectors as we can see it drops a tier three set of armor and also something called combat telemetry which is an event currency for arms week itself very curious to check out arms week in terms of live events outside of the core game arms week has the potential to be a pretty exciting one especially if the weapons themselves are pretty juicy another interesting thing i'd highlight here we can see the bond of forgotten wars which is actually something which dropped back in forsaken a blue item dropping right there i'm guessing that's because this is early on in the sort of power grind after the reset blue gear useful again early on potentially i would guess by looking at this here though we get a little preview from mr ruffle waffles for the first mission for kepler also looking at graviton spike there the new hand cannon we can see that deep side activation is available for it we have learned that this will actually be a craftable exotic weapon from kepler so possibly an exotic mission that we'll find along the way towards the end of the campaign much like we saw back in the final shape i think we got two or three exotic quests which pretty much kicked off immediately after the main campaign we do know there is a new voice actor for iicora as well spoiler alert right here there's a little bit of commentary from the opening mission for kepler and edge of fate but if you're curious about the new voice for iicora naturally not identical in our records this planettoid was confirmed to be unoccupied and inert but these readings indicate a singularity something's keeping this planettoid stable and our matter intact but guardian there's a black hole here on kepler i do like the screen there as we fly into kepler that looks pretty cool the sky boxes on the destination also look really good we're also seeing some of the new variations of fallen enemies here like the corsa who can fly around like superman and sort of float in the sky a little bit as well you'll notice a bunch of strand fallen too how in-depth those gameplay mechanics are and how much they really change we'll have to see we can approach iicora here so we're going to be interacting with vendors as we move through the space and the main story much like when we run into loi and that behind aora is the train that uh comes crashing through a portal or something at the start of edge of fate not entirely sure of the story parts there but we did see it in the main trailer they're also going to tease us with that locked up chest before we can move on we'll find a bunch of interesting planet maps and things on the wall around kepler as well it's going to be interesting to get a sense of what the backstory of this destination is also uh some of the objectives here hidden requires undiscovered technology i'm guessing uh these will be things that we'll use like the destination abilities and again mystery nearby showing up on the side of the screen there too interesting wildlife that kepler appears to have in the form of these strange semi-alien parrots i guess that looks something like that there's another thing there that says this device does not respond to your molecular structure again interactable objects with this kind of weird overlay that pops up with different icons and things uh there's a triumph there dropping some lore when we interact with these so obviously a bunch of this kind of stuff will be found on the destination other new enemy variants include things like bosses as we can see right here obviously not really a significant variation on uh fallen servtors that we normally see but obviously with slightly different skins and things like that then obviously as we move through different sections of missions or missions themselves we do get additional loot drops coming up on the screen right there again this is early game so while these ones are legendary they don't appear to have tears or anything like that actually associated with them yet really curious to see what's going on with that cargo ship or military ship of some sort in the background apparently that will be linked to loi in some capacity but the skybox for kepler in itself is actually pretty cool we also see the drifter ship off up there in the background also it would appear that while sometimes we'll have to interact with certain objects to actually get those kind of weird bits of story and law pop up sometimes they will pop up automatically so let's have a listen to that one as you could hear obviously not all of them will actually be voiced most of them are in distorted sound waves by the looks of things obviously that's cheaper in terms of voice actors and things like that as well which is an extra bonus i suppose we spot another boss fight here with the vessel of the archon we can see many of these bosses do actually have bane applied to them as well and we've got those alternate versions of fallen right there with the strand damage now one of the big things about kepler that we haven't really seen outside of the sort of campaign content is whether there's going to be a destination activity you know like overthrow that we had on the pale heart or those vex events that we had on neamuna i am assuming though that there will be some kind of specific activity content that we can run into and complete on the destination itself something else bungie haven't spoken about with regards to kepler is whether it will have matchmaking of course in the final shape that was one of the interesting choices with the pale heart i haven't seen any gameplay that indicates there is matchmaking for kepler but at the same time we've only seen the sort of story components so obviously additional kepler activities you know things which may be farmable we haven't really heard about that yet and the same applies to whether this will actually be a public destination personally i'm kind of hoping it is a public destination while the pale heart was absolutely awesome one of the elements that was definitely missing is that sense of it being more of a living world obviously bungie trying to do a bunch of different gameplay things to make the world feel alive but there's also a component of any destiny destination where running into other guardians and stuff is kind of a big part of that too so i'm very curious to see more information about that hopefully soon there is a collectible world material uh that we'll be getting access to on kepler though sometimes through chests and potentially we'll just find them hidden in the world as well but there's an unusual vessel here which kind of looks like a sand timer or something like that and hopefully those items will play into the sort of post game and the end game for kepler as well so there we go guys just wanted to do a breakdown of a bunch of things that we'll be running into on kepler a better look at some of the story content but also the destination in general safe to say we still have a lot of questions not least about the gameplay and the destination also one of these main characters loi that we'll be encountering not least other interesting story components like the train that we saw from the cinematic uh it looks like we will actually be able to pass back through it the train itself appears to be a portal of some kind which is certainly very interesting so i do think kepler has some potential based on what we've seen obviously the general flavor and appearance of it you'll have to give me your thoughts down below like i said it seems to be a mixture of sort of martian type elements like we've seen in the past lots of sort of plant life and things also this area right here on the left hand side is actually a sort of hub for kepler where loi will be housed but also the aeonians which are the race that actually live on kepler so very curious to see exactly how this all pans out guys but hopefully this has at least been a bit of a better look at the destination itself share any initial impressions you have on it down in the comment section if you've enjoyed this video a rating really does help us out but otherwise thank you for watching and i hope you guys have an awesome day
