Destiny 2 Dawning Event Weapon Guide

The dawning is back for the umpteenth time in Destiny 2, and we could sit here talking about cookie baking, but let's be honest. The only active thing D2 players care about right now are getting their god rolls and GTFOing. Well, that's actually not true. I really want to get that holiday dragon armor.

That's what I care about the most. But yeah, after that, I mean, god rolls. And other than one weapon, which I'm just not really excited about, spoiler, it is the glaive, we actually have decent options on the table this year.

So let's go through every dawning weapon coming this year, the rolls you'll want on them, and why. The weapon I'm most interested in getting a god roll will be the very last weapon shown in today's video. Starting with the newest dawning weapon, Mistral Lift, a three-round burst linear fusion rifle. And make no mistake, just because it's up first doesn't mean I don't care about or don't want it. I'm actually really looking forward to getting a god roll, which is hands down Envious Arsenal in column 3 and Bait and Switch in column 4, by the way.

I'll say that if you don't want to farm too long and get a Mistral with Clown Cartridge in column 3, that would be a pretty good fallback option too, although the Perfectionist in me would really want to keep going until I got Envious instead. Bonus points if you also get one to drop with Enhanced Battery in column 2 for a slightly larger mag. Small reminder, but remember that if you're using Mistral for DPS to use the Viced Stinger origin trait, not the Dawning Surprise origin trait. If and when Viced procs during DPS phase, you'll have that smug little moment where you get to say, Heh, nice. To yourself.

Knowing that you're an RNG god. And to those who might bring it up, yeah, you could get Withering Gaze in column 3. But I've said before, ideally, I think someone on your fire team is applying a debuff to the boss in some other way rather than needing somebody to rely on applying Withering Gaze. Standing still and pausing when ADSing slows down DPS. Yeah, technically only by a second and a half. It's not a huge pause, but still.

You also miss out on having an awesome perk like Envious if you decide to go with Withering. So yeah, I'm gonna pass on that. By the way, even though I really do want a Mistral lift, don't expect the gun to pop off right away.

We're still very much in a grenade launcher slash rocket launcher meta. However, if there's a specific boss fight or encounter where linears do really well, then yeah, Mistral will be awesome. I'd say try to get one if you can.

Next up, a potentially decent PvP gun. But before we get into that, let me give a big thank you to Raycon for sponsoring today's video. The holidays are right around the corner, and if you have someone in your life who you think is difficult to shop for, make the easiest decision of your life and just give them the Raycon Everyday Earbuds. Everybody has a tablet or a phone, and everybody has something they like to listen to, whether that be music, audiobooks, podcasts, whatever. Raycon's Everyday Earbuds are comfortable as hell and have up to eight hours of listening time without needing a charge at all.

And even if you're somewhere where you can't get a charge, don't worry, the protective case has got you covered. Just pop them right into the case and get your wireless charge on. Raycon sent me these forever ago, and I still use them.

They were a huge lifesaver on my honeymoon flight. The audio quality is awesome. I really love these to death.

Take advantage of that today. Thank you, Raycon. All right, we back. Moving right along, we have Stay Frosty back for the third time and with some interesting roles for PvP and PvE. Starting with PvP.

This year, Bungie decided to finally remove Offhand Strike from the Stay Frosty, which, personal note, thank Christ. I'm just gonna put it out there, if you come into my stream and see me actively running around in PvP hip-firing my pulse rifle by choice, that means I'm either doing a challenge on stream or I'm celebrating a certain holiday in April a little bit early, if you know what I'm saying. In exchange for Offhand, Bungie has given Frosty Lone Wolf, which I appreciate way more. Faster ADS speed, additional AE, and better aim assist all for free.

and the buff is stronger if you have no allies within 15 meters of you. That is really extra nice if you enjoy 3v3, by the way. There's a few other perks in column 3 I wouldn't mind for PvP, like moving target, killing wind, tunnel vision, or even encore.

But yeah, I want Lone Wolf. In column 4, you got Headseeker, Kill Clip, and Desperate Measures. I'm gonna be honest, I wish Desperate Measures were a little stronger on the Frosty. At Desperate Measures level 1, you improve your time to kill from 0.87 to 0.8.

seconds. Basically, it requires one less bullet from the overall burst to lock up the kill. Which, I mean, yeah, that is nice, but, uh, eh.

I think I'd probably rather go with Kill Clip. Get one kill and drop that TTK down to 0.53, aka you can potentially kill the other guy with only two pulls of the trigger, not three. Easy as all hell, just get one kill, then mow through everybody else, GG. In PvE, Frosty gets a new fun toy in the form of Rhyme Stealer, and that's what I really want, especially when paired together with Headstone and Column.

In short, any headstone kill you get will make a crystal, which you can then shoot and break for free, and bam, instant- Frost Armor. Are there other options? I mean, yeah, of course. Frenzy is over there.

I really like that perk in PvE. It just kind of depends on your overall build. If you have a lot of crystal generation going on already, sure, do something different, but I want Rhyme Stealer Headstone. Moving right along, we come to the Avalanche Machine Gun. If you're looking for a damn good PvE DPS weapon, well, yeah, that's probably the Mistral Lift Linear Fusion Rifle.

But if you like mowing through trash in PvE for fun, or just dumping into a random champion during a GM Nightfall run, hey, it's Avalanche. If champion killing is what you're into, might I recommend Rewind Wounds and Target Lock. As we all know, Target Lock ramps up in power the more you hit your shots in a row, and thanks to Rewind Rounds, you can get way deeper into the mag than you ever could before. Add in something like Extended Mag for even more Rewind Round hilarity.

Simply hold left-click and burn that yellow bar into the next dimension. As mentioned, the other role you could go for is more focused on clearing rooms of adds or mowing through groups of smaller enemies. Auto-loading and incandescent allow for respectable and easy-to-use add clear.

Most of the time, the use case for this role is a little bit more niche, as generally machine guns shouldn't really be your main add clear. However, it can definitely serve well even in higher-end content. Moving on, the Zephyr Sword, which happens to be only one of three stasis swords in the entire game. Normally, I don't really care about Zephyr that much, but like Save Frosty, this year it has been blessed with the addition of what else? Rhyme Stealer.

Paired together with Cold Steel in column 4, well yeah, now you have my attention. Freeze your enemy in 3 light sword swings, then get free frost armor when they shatter thanks to Rhyme Stealer. On paper, that seems incredibly useful and is definitely the role I'm most interested in right now.

Of course, if you're looking for just a straight up damage dealing DPS blade, Zephyr does come with the classic Relentless Strikes Whirlwind Blade combo. which you could also go for. Bonus points because Zephyr is an adaptive sword frame, which is generally pretty easy to use in sword DPS phases. Alright, before we get to the weapon I'm most interested in getting a god roll for, why don't we quickly touch on the one I don't really have any interest in, and that is the Albedo Wing.

Look, I'm not trying to be a hater, I'm just not really a glaive guy. They're not really my thing. That being said, I will admit that Albedo has some unique options this time around.

It's now officially the second glaive ever to get access to Volt Shot, and the first glaive to have access to Air Trigger, which, yeah, oddly interesting combo, I admit. Albedo is also the only glaive in the game capable of rolling both Grave Robber and Volt Shot. But before you flip out and envision a world where you're just swinging through trash with repeatedly activating Grave Robber and Volt Shot in tandem, remember that Grave Robber reloads from reserves, meaning that in theory, it should not proc reload activated perks like Volt Shot, which is very sad.

Rest in spaghetti, never forgetty. If you glaive in PvP, you sick maniac, Bungie has given Albedo the gift of being the only glaive in the game capable of rolling closing time. which, in my opinion, is the equivalent of buying $20,000 rims to put on your 2007 Jeep Compass.

It's a sick joke. Bungie, why do you do this to me? Last but not least, we come to the weapon I'm most interested in getting a good roll for.

Take note, I'm not saying this is the best weapon hands down The Dawning has to offer that might end up being the Mistral LFR, but I'm the most interested in the Glacioclasm fusion rifle. I'm not really interested in using Glacio in PvE. I generally try to stick with Rapid Fire frames in PvE due to their lightning-fast charge times. In PvP, though, high-impact frames aren't always the best, but they have the potential to be really filthy, leading to very deep one-hit kills and extremely angry post-game messages. And on that note, Glacio is officially the first high-impact frame fusion rifle capable of rolling Lone Wolf, but more importantly, Closing time.

If you've seen my two recent videos talking about that perk, yeah, closing time is a really, really good perk, especially in PvP, where you spawn in with just one round in the mag. To say I'm curious about using a high-impact frame fusion rifle with closing time is a bit of an understatement. Granted, high impacts can wind up being kind of a bust most of the time due to their annoyingly high charge time compared to other frames, but if you're really good at pre-charging and reading your opponent's right, you can pull off some really- dumb plays. Now, the real million dollar question though is do you go with Lone Wolf or Under Pressure in column three? Under Pressure is the classic tried and true fusion rifle PVP perk, which bumps up your accuracy and stability for free.

Icing on the cake, it gets better the lower you get in the mag, which makes it a literal perfect pairing for closing time in column four, which works the exact same way. However, if you didn't know, out of every high impact frame fusion rifle in the game, Glacioclasm has the lowest aim assist stat, meaning it could also benefit heavily from Lone Wolf. It's a really tough call.

My gut is telling me under pressure, but if you're a controller player, I'd really say to try out Closing Time and Lone Wolf. That being said, it would be extremely hard to go wrong with either choice. If I find out any ridiculously easy Dawning loot farms, I'll be sure to let you know, so ring the notification bell if you haven't already and good luck with your god roll hunting.

Be sure to tag me with your best weapon rolls on Twitter or Blue Sky, I definitely won't be jealous, or just come into Twitch chat and tell me what they are, I'll be grinding on Tuesday most likely. Thank you very much for watching, peace!
