Overview
This update summarizes major new content, weapon and armor changes, rewards, and event details from Bungie's Destiny 2 Ash and Iron weekly update. It covers upcoming features, rewards, community news, and important changes affecting gameplay and progression.
Ash and Iron Major Update Highlights
- Bungie released a new trailer showcasing the "Reclaim the Plaguelands" activity, set in the Destiny 1 Plaguelands, and introducing dungeon layers as new Pinnacle Ops activities.
- Two new exotic weapons are confirmed for Ash and Iron: - A strand rocket-assisted pulse rifle in the kinetic slot, which fires tracking projectiles that can be detonated.
- A new heavy weapon, strongly believed to be a SIVA-themed battleaxe, based on its unique appearance and promotional focus.

- Special weapons with synergy perks are being introduced: - A new shotgun with the "Mida" synergy, likely designed to work with the Mida Multi-Tool, similar to the Mida Mini-Tool.
- A rocket sidearm that works with the Sturm exotic, triggering its unique perk.

- Classic weapons like Drang and Mida Mini-Tool are returning with revised perks, and a new legendary crossbow is featured.
- The trailer also shows a new Warsat Heist exotic mission, which is expected to reward one of the new exotics and ties into the Warmind theme.
- The battleaxe shown in the trailer is likely the new exotic heavy weapon, not just a returning relic, as it features a distinct design and SIVA-like effects.
Upcoming Developer Livestream & Community Events
- Bungie will host a developer livestream on Tuesday, September 9th at 9:00 a.m. Pacific, previewing Destiny 2: Renegades (a Star Wars-themed major expansion) and the Ash and Iron update.
- The livestream is positioned as a crucial event for the Destiny 2 community, given current low player counts and high expectations.
- Watching the official Bungie Twitch stream for at least 15 minutes (with linked Bungie and Twitch accounts) will grant the "Knights of the Old" emblem as a Twitch drop.
- After the official stream, community members are encouraged to join creator streams for further coverage and reactions.
Rewards, Buffs, and Gear Changes
- Prime Engram drop rates and Focus Drop rates in Crucible have been increased, making it easier to earn high-value rewards.
- Trials of Osiris will now feature a weekly weapon drop, allowing players to target specific PvP gear and increasing parity with PvE rewards.
- Power reward progression is being streamlined: the new cap is 550, and earning higher activity grades (A or A+) guarantees power rewards and tier five drops, making leveling more efficient.
- Returning and revised weapons include the Mida Mini-Tool (solar submachine gun), Drang (solar sidearm), and the Hiatus (Strand rocket launcher).
- New gear and set bonuses are being introduced for Pinnacle Ops, Trials, Iron Banner, and Raids, with set bonuses like "Smoke Jumper" (damage reduction after picking up an Orb of Power) and "Too Old for This" (super damage regenerates health and shields while moving).
- Featured gear and exotics from Season Reclamation will remain featured in the next season, maintaining their bonuses and addressing community concerns about gear rotation.
- The new gear bonus in Season of the Lawless will be a flat 5% damage and 10% damage resistance for all featured gear, rather than tiered bonuses.
Dungeon Access & Portal Updates
- Three dungeon layers—Pit of Heresy (Beneath the Necropolis), Duality (Nightmare of Galran), and Warlord’s Ruin (Hefen’s Vengeance)—are being added to Pinnacle Ops in the portal.
- For two weeks after Ash and Iron launches, all players will have free access to the full original dungeons. After this period, the new dungeon layers will remain freely available in the portal.
- A discard function is being added to Portal Engrams in the Postmaster, allowing for quicker dismantling and inventory management.
- Fireteam power rewards are being improved: playing with lower-power friends will now help them level up faster, and Tier 2 gear will be easier to access.
- Portal mods like "grappler" are being removed from the matchmade experience for more consistent gameplay, and the power reward experience is being adjusted to avoid "leveling purgatory" at lower power levels.
Epic Desert Perpetual Raid Delay & World's First Race Changes
- The Epic Desert Perpetual Raid has been delayed by one week to Saturday, September 27th at 10 a.m. Pacific, to ensure a stable and high-quality experience.
- The World’s First race for the raid will begin at the same time, with contest mode active through September 29th at 10 a.m.
- New streaming rules for World’s First contention: - At least one member of each six-person fireteam must stream the raid on YouTube or Twitch.
- The stream must be set to video on demand (VOD) for verification.
- Only Bungie-provided overlays may be used to hide portions of the screen; no additional overlays or screen blocking are allowed.
- Game audio must be on at all times, but voice audio can be muted.
- A submission form for streaming info will be provided in the next TWID.

- These changes are intended to combat cheating and improve the viewing experience for the community.
Patch Notes Preview & Miscellaneous Updates

Destiny 2 Ash and Iron Update Summary
It's your girl Kid Kakas and today we've got some brand- give me a high five- spanking new Destiny 2 news, courtesy of the Bungie weekly update that has just gone live revealing official information. Was that good? No?
Oh sh- Alright, well, let's get started! Alright, now the first thing Bungie dropped today was actually a brand new trailer for the upcoming Ash and Iron Major Update. Let's take a look at that right now. So, we start out with the new activity, Reclaim the Plaguelands.
Yes, we're going back to the Destiny 1 Plaguelands. And... Very soon after the trailer begins, I think we see a new exotic weapon.
We have this, what looks like a rocket-assisted pulse rifle, shooting these strand projectiles. You'll notice the projectiles have a bit of a tracking to them, but then, uh, the gun activates something likely by holding reload like a lot of other guns and all the projectiles explode. So new strand exotic rocket assisted pulse rifles that will stick targets with projectiles and then you activate something to have them all explode.
That's what it appears to be at first glance. Remember guys, we know we're getting two new exotics in Ash and Iron thanks to the new featured weapons list. One is in the kinetic slot, so again, a strand rocket-assisted pulse rifle would track, and the other is in the heavy slot. Moving on from there guys, we see more gameplay from the Plaguelands within the trailer. And then very interestingly, we see dive into dungeon layers.
These are going to be new Pinnacle Ops activities. We are going and doing sections of certain dungeons. Now I want to point out this part here.
The player takes out a shotgun to shoot. Red Bar Taken Scion, don't know about that one, but then they swap off to a Scout Rifle, likely showing us some of the new weapons coming in Ash and Iron. But I got this screenshot right here, this pause when he was shooting the shotgun.
Guys, look at the wording at the bottom of the shotgun. That very clearly says Mida. So what I think is happening here is that this is a new shotgun, a special ammo shotgun that will work in conjunction with the Mida multi-tool.
Just like the Mida mini-tool has the Mida synergy perk, this shotgun likely also has that. And more evidence for this is that Yesterday, Bungie put out a surprise massive article detailing the buffs and nerfs coming in the Ash and Iron Sandbox update. If you guys want to know all of those changes, check out the video I made on it.
It's linked right up above. But part of that is that Mida Multitool and the Sturm, the two weapons that have these synergies with other random legendary weapons, they're getting massive buffs. And they actually mentioned that primary ammo weapons using Midas Energy do a certain thing, which would indicate there are special ammo weapons now with the Midas Energy perk. And again, I think that's what you're seeing here with the shotgun that literally has the word Midas carved into it.
Regardless, guys, the trailer goes on. We also see there's a new Warsat Heist expansion. Exotic mission looks pretty darn sick. And again, this is probably gonna reward the other exotic weapon or maybe it rewards that Strand exotic pulse rifle we saw earlier.
We see a bunch of weapons being shown off here We actually see the might a mini tool So maybe we're getting like a new version of the might a mini tool as well guys And then we see is that the drang wait? No, it's shooting a Rocket Assisted Projectiles! So there you go!
There is the special ammo version of a weapon that works with the STERM and you'll actually see the user switch to the exotic STERM. We're getting a new rocket sidearm that again works with the STERM, will trigger the STERM exotic perk and then again for the MITA version of that it's the shotgun. So that is actually really cool!
New special weapons that utilize these synergy perks and conjunction with the massive buffs to the Maida and the Sturm we saw yesterday. Now right after that we see the actual Drang so likely again repurposed with new perks coming in Ash and Iron. Then we actually see a brand new crossbow being used, likely just a new legendary crossbow.
Then the user gets into a Brig. If you're enjoying heavy metal you're gonna love this and then at the very end of the trailer we actually see A Guardian using a Battle Axe right here guys and slamming some enemies with it. We have some cool close-up shots of this Battle Axe and guys I think this is the new exotic heavy weapon coming to Destiny 2. We know 100% we are getting a new heavy weapon because of the featured weapon list. Now, I said this on Twitter and so many people were saying, you know, out of your mind, this is a relic just like the Battle Axe from the original Destiny 1 Plaguelands.
But there's a couple of reasons I think this is actually the new exotic and not just a relic. First of all, they already did the relic in Destiny 1, and it looks completely different. Like, this is what the Destiny 1 relic looks like, and that is clearly not what this new version looks like. So, if you're bringing back the Destiny 1 Plaguelands relic to get nostalgia points...
Why would it look completely different? Like you're not gonna do that. You're gonna bring back the Destiny 1 version for those nostalgia points. So that's tip number one. Again, tip number two, we know 100% we are getting a exotic heavy weapon.
So like this would fit the bill 100%. And the last thing guys is that look at the Battle Axe. There is some things swarming around it, right?
Almost like it has SIVA. That's right. I think this is a SIVA effect.
And again, you see the Guardian using it and it has these like swirling things exactly like the Outbreak Perfected, guys. And what is the new exotic mission? It's the Warsat Heist. It is a Warmind-themed exotic mission.
It makes complete sense that we're gonna get a SIVA Battleaxe from this exotic mission, guys. And finally, my last point of evidence is that, I mean, in the actual, like, promo image of Ash and Iron, center stage is a Guardian using the Battleaxe, right? Like, this is clearly something they're promoting. Oh, and by the way, on Twitter, again, uh, Fallout said hey if this is a new exotic weapon. This is awesome if it's a relic we're not gonna be happy and Destiny 2 actually replied and said hey you got to tune in you got to tune in for the upcoming live stream We'll talk about that live stream in a second, but like why would you say that dude like if someone's saying hey if this is a relic?
We're gonna be very disappointed and your response is hey you got it tune in to find out bro Like how many pieces of evidence do you guys need this is a new exotic battle axe? If it isn't, I delete my channel. If it is, I expect tweets from all of you guys thinking it's a relic saying that I'm the best channel ever. Okay, so moving on from there, let's get to the brand new information within the twit.
Alright, so the first thing Bungie talks about is the upcoming developer livestream. Here is the promotional image and Bungie says: "Join us next Tuesday, September 9th at 9:00 a.m. Pacific, an hour before reset, as we offer our first preview of Destiny 2: Renegades, which is the upcoming Star Wars-themed major paid expansion." and the development team gathered to deep dive on the new Ash and Iron major update also launching that day. And let's be honest, there's a lot riding on this livestream.
The Destiny 2 community is not thrilled right now. The player counts are not great. So Bungie really needs to knock it out of the park. Luckily, again, Renegades being Star Wars themed, like all you need to see is a Guardian coming in there wielding a lightsaber and doing some sick stuff.
We might be back, right? Like there's going to be some hype forever. from that, but again, they really do need to knock it out of the park. I will absolutely be watching and reacting to this live stream on twitch.tv slash CacusHD, and then of course, I'm just going to be streaming right into the new Ash and Iron drop, so be sure to tune in for that. Now, if you are going to tune into the official Bungie Twitch channel for at least 15 minutes and your Bungie account is linked with your Twitch account, you will get this emblem, the Knights of the Old, as a Twitch drop.
And then, of course, after those 15 minutes, you're going to come over to my Twitch channel, right? Right? Guys, anyways, let's talk about the upcoming portal changes.
First of all, there's a section on previously announced reward buffs. So we've already talked about a lot of these changes, you know, buffs to fireteam ops, the amount of drops you're getting. You can now get a prime engram per activity completion rewards. You have a bunch of rewards.
You have a much higher chance to get a prime. And again, I'm just going to leave these on screen because we have already talked about a lot of these changes. Desert Perpetual Raid is getting some changes, advantageous changes as well, and all of that stuff. They say, before we move to the post-launch updates, we have two more changes that will be released on September 9th.
Increase the chance of earning Prime Engrams on activity complete in the Crucible. And they've increased the bonus focus drop rates from 25% to 66% in the Crucible. Wow, that's a big change. Then for Trials Rewards, they said if you haven't heard yet, we're bringing back a weekly featured weapon for Trials.
This will bring PvP gear to parity with the PvE experience and provide opportunities for players to focus their efforts on acquiring specific pinnacle PvP gear. The trials weekly featured weapon can be acquired with each visit to the lighthouse and will have a chance to drop in addition to all pre-existing rewards when completing a match win or lose. The drop chance varies depending on the grade and you can see that right here.
So hopefully again this is kind of saying you will not just get one big drop of loot for going to the lighthouse the first time you can actually farm a particular weapon and it'll keep dropping hopefully with high tiers as well. Moving on from there guys more portal buffs. So they say we're removing some of the mods from the matchmade portal experience so they're getting rid of like grappler and all that stuff where you know you get into a you know matchmade one and suddenly you don't have access to your grenade and your grenade based build it just sucks. we're creating a more consistent power reward experience for the upper climb.
So this is now going to be from 500 to 550, which is the new power cap coming in ashen iron. So no longer will you be in leveling purgatory from 400 to 450. Again, you're going to level normally through those levels. And now that purgatory is saved for 500 to 550, but they say earn an A or A plus grade to get plus one power on your activity completion rewards. That is crazy. Way better.
That is going to be so much faster than relying on primes to randomly drop. Oh my goodness. They say this change will also be in effect for A grades at the 400 to 450 power range when Renegades launches.
Next up they say we're improving fireteam ops rewards We're identifying opportunities to improve the nature of the reward experience from many more activities within fireteam ops They say new they are going to reduce gameplay penalties when running out of time in Grandmaster difficulty on the portal Then they say they're going to make tier 5 rewards easier to earn in the portal so from 450 power onwards so platinum or diamond reward packages are earn a score of 1,250,000 or more to guarantee tier five drops from your activity completion rewards. That's just an arbitrary number. Like what does that mean?
To confirm that you'll be able to earn tier five rewards before launching your activity, add modifiers and increase your reward score forecast until it shows a picture of a tier five engram and a score of 1,250,000 plus. As you go up in power, you'll be able to earn tier fives with rewards. progressively lower grades example at 500 power you only require a b plus for tier fives so it does look like you know with ashen iron if you're stuck in that 400 to 450 purgatory Like stop leveling because when this comes out, it's going to be a lot easier to level. And then like they say at 500 power, you get B pluses, you're getting guaranteed tier fives.
So yeah, we're going to end the season with a lot of juicy tier fives. I actually am kind of excited about that. Moving on from there, they have rewards, new weapons, armor, and set bonuses, guys. So starting with the weapons in the shared pool, you have the Mida mini tool. It's back, baby.
Revised lightweight submachine gun, solar, and the Drang revised adaptive sidearm, also solar. And then finally the hiatus, I think, high impact rocket launcher, which is Strand. Guys, a new getting up to a tier five Mida mini tool. Bro, I have like tens of thousands of kills on my OG Mita mini tool, not the OG, the craftable one. Dude, I am super excited for that to come back.
Then for Trials of Osiris, we have the Burden of Guilt, which is an adaptive fusion rifle stasis and the Ever Burning Glitz, which is a rapid fire auto rifle that is kinetic. Then for Iron Banner, we have the Finite Impactor, which is an adaptive anti- hand cannon that is solar. Remember, Iron Banner will be returning sometime after Ashen Iron comes out.
After that, for Pinnacle Ops, we have the Forced Memorializer, which is a precision scout rifle. It's kinetic. And we have the Seraphite Gaze, which is an aggressive submachine gun, which is stasis. Then for solo ops as well as crucible ops, or I should say solo slash fireteam ops, those new weapons are redacted.
Maybe it's some of the weapons we saw within that trailer, guys, like the Drang-style rocket sidearm could be one of them. That's super exciting. Then for armor and set bonuses, so the solo ops and fireteam ops new set bonus is smoke jumper. So the two-piece is redacted.
Ride together, die together. When you pick up an orb of power, gain a brief period of rapidly decaying damage reduction? Um...
That's really saucy, actually. Anything that increases your DR for doing something as simple as picking up an Orb of Power, like, you're producing Orbs of Power everywhere, guys. And then also, too old for this, Super Damage causes Health and Shields to regenerate while you're in motion. Additional Super Damage refreshes this effect.
So that seems like it's built for roaming Supers. You're moving around with a roaming Super, and you're regenerating your Health and Shields like more. So again, like that could be actually pretty saucy. Moving on from there, other new armor suits. So Crucible Ops, Iron Banner, and the Raid, they all get a new redacted set of armor with new set bonuses.
Honestly, I do appreciate this. Like that is actually a lot of new armor with new set bonuses. Hopefully they're juicy enough to really get people to go after them and create some new builds. Moving on from there, guys, they say new Pinnacle Ops dungeon layers. So, three dungeon layers are being added to Pinnacle Ops in the portal.
You have the Pit of Heresy beneath the Necropolis, you have Duality, Nightmare of Galran, and you have Warlord's Ruin, Hefen's Vengeance. Essentially, they're going to be not entire dungeons, but one encounter, maybe like one encounter and a traversal section of these dungeons to just add more content to Pinnacle Ops. You know, a lot of people are very split on this. Why not just make the entire dungeon relevant again, Bungie?
But then it's hard to find people who want to play through an entire dungeon. You know, hard to say. But they say, wait, there's more.
For two weeks, starting at Ash and Iron launch, we're making all three of their original dungeons available to all players. Once this period ends, the dungeon layers for Pit of Heresy, Duality, and Warlord's Rune will remain free. freely available in the portal. So that's actually really cool.
So you don't need the dungeon key. You're going to have a few weeks where you can go in, potentially get the exotic, you know, from Warlord's Ruin, and then you call it a day. If your key goes away, who cares? You got the exotic forever. That's kind of cool.
Moving on from there, a few more things. So 9.1.0, Ashen Iron Launch, Fireteam Power will no longer adjust your score when below 300 power. This means that playing with friends that are at a lower power than you will improve their rewards, allowing quicker access to Tier 2 gear.
Very cool. A discard function has been added to Portal Engrams in the Postmaster, allowing quicker dismantles. Then for the Renegades launch for featured gear, when Renegades launches, so that next big pay DLC, all legendary gear from season reclamation will be included as part of season to lawless featured gear. In other words, Legendary Gear currently with the teal featured gear background marker will continue to be marked as featured gear next season?
This is actually huge. This means brand new gear like the Mint Retrograde, right, that everyone is grinding for. You're trying to get a god roll.
Right now, it's featured. It gets a damage bonus thanks to the Featured gear bonus from the seasonal artifact, but the worry is that okay you farm a tier 5 and then it's not featured anymore in Season lawless when renegades comes out and then you know you've wasted your time kind of I mean you still get access to the weapon Just doesn't get that feature gear bonus now That's not the case Featured gear will last into the next season. So that means all the farming you've done for new armor sets, like let's say you've got the Solstice armor set or the raid armor set or whatever, Bushido set, all that stuff is featured.
It's giving you a damage resistance bonus. You're going to be able to carry that into season of the Lawless and still get that bonus. So that makes everything all the time you've put into the game right now much more worthwhile and that is definitely addressing a major community concern that things were maybe rotating out of being featured gear too soon.
In fact, they say all new exotics from Season Reclamation will also be included as part of Season of the Lawless featured gear. They say the new gear bonus will be changed for Season of the Lawless' Artifact. So starting in Season of the Lawless, the new gear bonus will be a flat bonus for all featured gear.
It will no longer be tiered as it is currently in Season of the Reclamation and will be max 5% damage and max 10% damage resistance, so a definite nerf to the featured gear. This in my opinion, we're getting so close to like why not just get rid of it, right? Like why not just get rid of it right now? It's definitely at the point where you know, it's still an okay bonus It makes you want to use the new gear certainly the new armor sets for that 10% DR but you don't feel quite as bad for using the old stuff. Let me know what you guys think in the comment section about this change.
Certainly having all the new stuff that we've been grinding for right now carry over into the next season is good to hear. Moving on from their big announcement, big change, they are changing the release date of the Epic Desert Perpetual Raid. So they say, in an effort to provide a stable, high-quality experience, we've made the decision to delay the Epic Raid by one week.
This activity will now ship on Saturday, September 27th. and the World's First Race will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific, which is reset. Contest mode will be active through September 29th, ending at 10 a.m. They say they understand the challenges it creates for having to reschedule.
They also say we've created new rules for the upcoming World's First Race, including a list of streaming requirements. They say these requirements are both for verification purposes to combat cheaters and and to improve the overall viewing experience for those who like watching the streams. Wow.
Okay. So here's the new rules. So the following is required if teams wish to be in contention for Worlds First.
Streaming is required, but only one member of the six fireteam members has to stream. The stream must be on YouTube or Twitch. The stream must be set to video on demand so Bungie can go in and verify stuff.
If the team member wants to hide portions of their screen, they must use an overlay provided by the Bungie/Destiny the game and cannot use additional overlays to block portions of their stream even as a joke. This stream overlay will hide portions of their screen during the completion. Expect this to be published in the coming weeks.
It may be edited to add your branding and face, but no additional gameplay content may be covered. If you wish to compete yet have no desire to cover your screen, you don't have to worry about it. This is actually huge.
So the days of people just blacking out their entire screen or having a gif of a cat or whatever, you know, covering almost all of their screen is over for day ones or at least this particular day one. Likely, Bungie is going to have something that, you know, covers out your buffs and maybe what weapons you're using, but it'll probably be pretty minimal and you're going to get to see the vast majority of people's screens, guys. So, I think this will absolutely improve the viewer experience.
Will some of the day one competitors hate this? Maybe. Should Bungie have gone even further and just said, no covering your screens, we're back in D1, baby.
You know, go for it. Let me know what you guys think in the comment section down below, but this is a very big change. Now, on top of that, the team member who streams cannot blackout or hide their screen or portions of their screen outside of that provided overlay.
The game audio must be on at all times, but players may mute their voice audio. And they say, I will have a submission form ready to share in next week's Twid for you to share your streaming info if you plan on participating in this. the race. So certainly again, these are some massive changes to the streaming part of it. But what do you guys think about being forced to stream as well?
Like that's an interesting thing. And unfortunately they say nothing about the most complained thing about the Epic raid, which of course is the not swamp. So not swap seems like, well, it'll still be there.
Moving on from there, they say the new patch notes preview for stuff coming next week with Ash and Iron. Shooting range now features customizable difficulty from the portal. That's interesting. They've updated the portal scoring and grade info in the post-game carnage report screen. Banshee will once again offer the quest to acquire the catalyst for the Tommy's matchbook.
Thankfully, lobby balancing and trials will be disabled. They fixed an issue in the duality dungeon preventing players from being teleported into the nightmare realm on Master's difficulty. Trial's Special Ammo Meter has been increased and they've updated scalable modifier saving when repeating activities to only save and reapply modifiers that the user selected.
And they also have an Edge of Fate voice acting update that you can see right here. And then, guys, we have the Humble Choice Destiny 2 Legacy Collection. So the Legacy Collection of Destiny 2 is available as part of the Humble Bundle.
So definitely you can get a big, big savings if you choose to do that. So I'm just going to put that information here. And then finally, guys, well, not quite finally, they say celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us.
us guys and you can see the information right here they say in honor of hispanic heritage month everyone that makes a ten dollar donation through the bungie foundation will receive this emblem in destiny too guys And then finally we have a Bungie Rewards for the Heavy Metal title pin. Heavy Metal is currently ongoing guys. They also mention, I do want to say in the player support thing, claim your seasonal challenges before Tuesday so when Ash and Iron launches next week, seasonal challenges will be refreshed.
So make sure, again, claim every single seasonal challenge, otherwise it's just wasted, right? So you might as well get some bright engrams or whatever from that guys. Okay, that is going to be it for the video. I hope you enjoyed and found this informative.
