Overview
This week’s Destiny 2 TWAB covers major updates ahead of the "Ash and Iron" launch, details on the upcoming "Renegades" expansion, significant changes to rewards and progression, new streaming requirements for competitive events, and community initiatives.
Ash and Iron Expansion Launch Details
- "Ash and Iron" launches next week, with a developer livestream scheduled for September 9. The stream will preview the expansion and provide a deep dive into the new features.
- Watching the Bungie Twitch stream for at least 15 minutes with a linked Bungie account will grant viewers the Knights of Old emblem as a Twitch drop.
- The update introduces new portal loot, improved Trials rewards, portal buffs, portal reward improvements, and dungeon layers.
- Dungeon layers for Pit of Heresy, Duality, and Warlord's Ruin will be added to the portal for all players. For the first two weeks after launch (9/9–9/23), the original dungeons will be free for everyone. After this period, dungeon layers remain available, but legacy dungeon loot will require the corresponding Dungeon Key.
- The Classic Collector modifier can be toggled in dungeon layer activities to ensure legacy dungeon rewards drop alongside portal rewards, though legacy rewards will lack seasonal power and gear tiers.
Progression, Reward, and Gameplay Changes
- Portal reward buffs and increased drop rates for activities will go live on September 9, including more frequent fire-themed activity drops and higher chances for prime engrams.
- Trials of Osiris will feature a weekly weapon, with drop chances scaling by match grade (C+ at 20%, A+ at 60%), bringing PvP gear rewards closer to PvE standards.
- Several mods (Grappler, Hypercritical, Oscillation, Match Game) are being removed from match-made portal activities to improve balance, but will remain available for custom activities.
- The power climb from 400–550 is being restructured: earning an A or A+ grade in activities from 500–550 guarantees a +1 power drop, making progression more predictable and reducing reliance on RNG. This change will also apply to the 400–450 range when Renegades launches.
- Fireteam Ops rewards are being improved, with more rewarding experiences planned for a wider range of activities.
- Grandmaster (GM) portal activities will no longer zero out revives when the time limit is reached, except for GM conquests.
- Earning tier 5 rewards will be easier: from 450 power onward, achieving a score of 1,250,000+ guarantees a tier 5 drop, and the grade requirement for tier 5s decreases as player power increases (e.g., at 500 power, only a B+ is needed).
- Fireteam power will no longer reduce your score when playing with lower-power friends below 300, making it easier to access tier 2 gear.
- A discard action has been added to the portal for faster dismantling of unwanted engrams.
Featured Gear and Artifact Updates
- New weapons and armor sets are being introduced across activities, including set bonuses and returning favorites. Examples include the Mida Mini Tool, revised submachine guns, and new hand cannons.
- The Solo Ops and Fireteam Ops Smoke Jumper armor sets offer set bonuses, such as temporary damage reduction when picking up an aura and health regeneration while moving after super damage.
- Additional new armor sets are coming for Crucible Ops, Iron Banner, and raids.
- With the launch of Renegades, all legendary gear from Season Reclamation, The Edge of Fate, and Ashen Iron will remain viable as featured gear—there will be no hard reset, only a level reset.
- Artifact gear bonuses will change in future seasons: starting with Season Lawless, all featured gear will receive a flat bonus (5% weapon damage, 10% armor resistance), replacing the current tiered system.
Epic Raid, World’s First, & Streaming Requirements
- The Epic Raid release is delayed by one week, now launching on September 27. Contest mode will run through September 29.
- The "Rules First" race introduces new streaming requirements for teams competing for World’s First: - At least one team member must stream on YouTube or Twitch, with VOD enabled.
- Only Bungie-provided overlays may be used to hide portions of the screen; no additional overlays or screen modifications are allowed.
- Game audio must be active at all times, though voice audio can be muted.
- These requirements are intended to improve verification, reduce cheating, and enhance the viewing experience. Bungie will review and adjust these rules based on feedback.

Patch Notes Preview
- The shooting range now supports customizable difficulty and access to most daily modifiers, allowing for more accurate testing.
- Post-game carnage reports will better display scoring and grading information.
- The Banshee quest for Tommy’s Matchbook catalyst is returning.
- Lobby balancing in Trials will be disabled.
- Fixes include resolving teleportation issues in the Duality dungeon on Master difficulty and increasing the Trials Special Ammo Meter.
- Modifier saving is improved: only user-selected modifiers will be saved and reapplied when repeating activities.
Voice Acting and Community Initiatives
- The original English voice actors for Ikora, Oren, and Kiyoma return in Ashen Iron, with newly recorded lines. French and Spanish voice actors are recording lines for Renegades, expected later this year.
- Destiny 2 Legacy Collection 2025 will be part of the September Humble Choice bundle, offering a comprehensive set of campaigns and raids. 5% of each purchase will be donated to Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization.
- Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated with the Reviver emblem, available to players who donate $10 or more to El Centro de la Raza through the Bungie Foundation campaign by September 30, 2025. All proceeds go to support the nonprofit’s mission.
Ongoing Issues and Final Notes
- Some gear may display incorrect power values visually next week, but this is only a display issue and does not affect actual power or gameplay.
- Developers are committed to ongoing reward and gameplay improvements, with more changes planned for the future.
- Players are reminded to claim seasonal challenges before Tuesday and to watch for next week’s updates.
- The TWAB was released after a shorter work week due to Labor Day, but Bungie aims to keep players informed and engaged as new content arrives.
Destiny 2 Ash and Iron Update
Another week, boys, and another twab. This week in Destiny, we're getting ready for Ash and Iron. Nothing has been burning behind the scenes, and we're excited to show you what we've been cooking.
You thought we'd make an Iron pun, didn't you? We're hosting an upcoming stream to talk about the major update, sharing more details about next week's portal additions and changes, more details about the upcoming Rules vs. Race, and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Here's the full rundown of what we're discussing today.
Ash and I are next week. Fresh Portal Loots, Trials Rewards, Portal Buffs, Portal Rewards Improvements, Dungeon Layers, Featured Gear for Renegades, World's First Updates, Release Date Change, and Streaming Requirements. Release Date Change and Streaming Requirements.
Patch notes preview, voice acting update, humble choice, and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us. So let's hit it. All right, "Ash and Iron" launches next week.
Developer livestream, developer livestream, this will be next Tuesday. Tune in September the 9th. Join us next Tuesday, September the 9th, as we offer our preview of "Destiny 2 Renegades." And the development team gathered a deep dive on the new "Ash and Iron" major updates.
also launching that day. We saw the trailer earlier, guys, if you want to check out that breakdown. Now, everyone watching our stream on the Bungie Twitch channel for at least 15 minutes with their Bungie account linked will earn the Knights of Old emblem as a Twitch drop. Knights of Old, okay.
Uh, yeah, we'll be watching it next week too, guys. I hope it's good. It's gotta be good.
Renegades will be launching in December, and we do know that it's a Star Wars-themed expansion. Not really sure what that collab is gonna involve outside of Star Wars stuff, but we'll see what they show us. Upcoming portal updates.
Our biggest set of changes to the portal yet are just around the corner. New gear, more activities than ever before, plus tons of upgrades to create more rewarding experiences. Here's a look. Previously announced reward buffs coming September 9th. As a reminder from last week, we're making portal reward buffs based on your feedback.
Lots of buffs. Several fire theme op activities will have an increase in the number of drops. Activity timers have been rebounded across the board. Players will have a chance for a prime income drop per portal activity completion reward.
The portal timer bonus earned will grant 5% minimum score. Conquests will become replayable and your account's highest power will be used for reward score additionally the desert perpetual ray will have the following weekly challenges for added power progress improved gear tier drops gear attunement added um before we move to post launch updates we have two more changes that will be that will be released on september the 9th increased chance of earning prime engrams on activity completions in the crucible increased bonus focus drop rates from 25 to 66 in the crucible okay Good. Trials Rewards. If you haven't heard yet, we're bringing back a weekly featured weapon for Trials. This will bring PvP gear to parity with the PvE experience and provide opportunities for players to focus their efforts on acquiring specific pinnacle PvP gear.
The Trials weekly featured weapon can be acquired with each visit to the Lighthouse and will have a chance to drop in addition to all pre-existing rewards when completing a match, win or lose. The drop chance varies depending on the grade with C plus scaling to 20%, A plus scaling to 60%. More details will be shared in next week's twit.
All right. So trials right now, I don't know if y'all know, but essentially it's just like an open, an open loop pool, all RNG base. But now you're going to have a, a featured weapon here. Uh, 9.1.0.1 portal buffs. Now, a number of the buffs we've been working on will be rolling out through the launch of Ashen Iron.
The handful targeting the next patch, Destiny 2 update 9.1.0.1. Now, here are the changes heading towards this patch and the work in progress information we can share about them. We're removing some mods from match made portal experience. Some mods could stack in ways that were unenjoyable for most players, or become overly difficult for match-made environments. They will still be available for mod selection when customizing your own portal activities.
Those mods are Grappler, Hypercritical, Oscillation, and Match Game. This was no surprise. We're creating a more consistent power reward experience for the upper power climb.
From 500 to 550, earning an A. or an A plus grade to get a plus one power on your activity completion rewards. Wait, this is not prime dependence? Oh my God, that is massive.
So you'll always be, as long as you get A or A plus grade, you will always get a plus one drop. The big change with this, guys, is... This grind just became substantially easier.
And if Bungie continues that, that means the grind in the next season, 400 to 450, 500 to 550, will be cut down substantially. So this is good. It's still going to be a bit of a grind, but nowhere near on the level it is now because now it's just orangey.
it's just how how often can you get a prime which is like one in every 20 runs and this is on top of the other buffs that that are also hitting the portal now this change will also be in effect for a grades in the 400 to 450 power range when renegade launches note that with the launch of Ashen Iron, the power climb from 400 to 500 will be naturally accelerated by the power cap increasing to 550. So if you notice the grind right now, like the grind of 400, I know a lot of people say is too much. It is still substantially better than the 400 to 450 grind currently. That cap, when it gets lifted, That means that the grind you experience to 400, it will be that way all the way to 500. And then you'll go to your plus ones and primes to 550 from 500. Also note that we expect this change to positively impact PVP rewards and we'll be monitoring the PVP experience to ensure this.
Now we're improving Fireteam op rewards. We're identifying opportunities to improve the nature of the reward experience from many more activities within Fireteam ops. We are rapidly aligning on the plan and will share more details with you in the future.
Now new reduce gameplay penalties when running out of time in Grandmaster difficulty in the portal. GM difficulty portal activities will no longer zero out revice when you hit the time limit. Note that revice will still zero out for GM conquests. Now new make tier five rewards easier to earn the portal from 450 power and onwards platinum or diamond war packages.
earn a score of 1,250,000 or more to guarantee tier five drops from your activity completion rewards. Okay. Yes. You got to get 1.25.
Yeah. And that's even from 450 and that's for everything. So you don't have to be, cause like right now it's just primes that can give you the tier five.
I'm trying to remember, like, it depends on the activity. You're going to have to stack some modifiers to get into that 1.25, but still that's very good. You're not in the situation where you just have to hope for rng to bless you with a tier 5. now to confirm that you'll be able to earn tier 5 rewards before launching your activity add modifiers and increase your reward score forecast until it shows a picture of a tier 5 ingram and a score of 1 million 250 000. this right here great quality of life change i actually have something that spits out boom this is what you're going to get with the modifiers that you have currently loaded up not really because you don't have baines yeah Now, as you go up in power, you'll be able to earn tier fives with progressively lower grades.
Example, at 500 power, you'll only require a B plus for tier fives. Interesting. Okay. Interesting. Yeah.
I guess it wouldn't make sense that you have to, with your level going up. And not only that, the content also gets easier because your level is going up too. But then you could just get to a point where, I'm assuming at 550, you could just run it with maybe like hardly any banes on the thing. thing, you know what I mean?
And still get tier fives to drop. We know our work isn't done. We have more changes planned in the future.
Now rewards, new weapons, armor, and set bonuses. With all the above changes to how you earn rewards, we thought this would be a great time to introduce new rewards coming in the upcoming major update. Check out next week's stream to see some in action. So weapons, shared pool, Mida mini tool, revised lightweight submachine gun, solar drain, revised adaptive sidearm, solar, heliatus, high impact rocket launcher, strand. Okay.
Trials of Osiris, burden of guilt, adaptive fusion rifle, stasis, ever burning glitz, rapid fire, auto rifle, kinetic. Thank you. We just got giver's blessing too.
Iron banner, finite impact. Impactor, Adaptive Hand Cannon, Solar. Last year's favorite hand cannon is coming back. Pinnacle Ops, Force Memorializer.
Precision Scout Rifle, Kinetic. Seraphine Haze, Aggressive Submachine Gun, Stasis. Oh, and we're also getting a buff for Aggressive Submachine Guns. Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops, Redacted.
crucible ops redacted now armor and set bonus the solo ops fire team ops smoke jumper armor suits set bonus this is the two-piece despairing soul set two-piece ride together die together when you pick up an aura power gain a brief period of rapidly decaying damage reduction oh that might be nice four piece too old for this super damage causes health and chills regenerate while you're in motion additional super damage refreshes its effect Okay, now other new armor sets, crucible ops, redacted suit, iron banner, iron redacted suit, and raid redacted suits. Okay. Getting a lot of armor sets here. All right. Looks good.
Now, new Pinnacle Ops dungeon layers. Dungeon layers are a way of bringing dungeon encounters to the portal through our Pinnacle Ops offering and will be available to all players looking for a challenge. The encounters will be familiar but have been updated to work with the portal's modifiers, scoring systems, and portal loot.
The three dungeon layers being added to the Pinnacle Ops in the portal are Pit of Heresy, Duality, and Warlord's Ruin. Oh, and these are the individual encounters for each one. Okay.
Oh, Oh, okay, okay. But wait, there's more. For two weeks, starting at Ashen Iron, launch 9/9 to 9/23, we are making all three of their original dungeons available to all players.
Once this period ends, the dungeon layers of Pit Heresy, Duality, and Warlord's Ruin will remain freely available in the portal. If you prefer to farm dungeon-specific loot to fill out your collection in the portal, you can customize dungeon layer activities and toggle the new Boon modifier Classic Collector. This modifier will ensure that legacy dungeon rewards will drop in addition to portal rewards.
These will be available to all players during the first two weeks of Ashen Iron, after which players will be required to purchase the corresponding Dungeon Key to earn more of this loot. Please note the legacy rewards will lack seasonal power and gear tiers and are purely additive. So probably not even worth it, right?
So hold on, am I understanding this correctly? These are the only three encounters being added to the dungeon layer? Who would want non-tier? So you're going to get tiered loot, guys, for these three encounters. You will not, if you were like, hey, I want to go run the whole dungeon.
You can and you can get the old loot, but you can't. They're not all tiered loot. The legacy loot is not tiered, but is it going to be dungeon loot?
I don't know. I don't actually know what the loot pool is going to look like for this. I think it's just going to be portal loot, guys, tied to these individual activities with the rotation of whatever the focus weapon is for that day. It's kind of like mint becoming the focus weapon for Starcross or something.
You see what I'm saying? Same concept here for this. It's pinnacle loot that's going to be in rotation for it. Oh, so this will be in the pinnacle list. Gotcha.
Yeah, I'd say a couple of things, Bungie. We need more encounters than just these three, in my opinion. And I know you want to make it work with the...
difficulty system, the Bane system, but I think also we need, like, I would have been completely down for a tiered Indebted Kindness. I'd eat that up. You know what I mean? I'd be all over that.
Now, a few more things. 9.1.0 Ashen Iron Launch. Fireteam power will no longer adjust your score when below 300 power. This means that playing with friends who are at a lower power than you will improve the rewards, allowing quicker access to tier 2 gear. A discard action has been added to the portal.
Ingram must win in the Postmaster, allowing quicker dismantles if desired. Now, 9.5.0, Renegades launch featured gear. So this is way in the future.
When Renegade launches all legendary gear from Season Reclamation, The Edge of Fate, and Ashen Iron will be included as part of Season's lawless featured gear. In other words, legendary gear currently... with the Tilled Feature Gear Background Marker will continue to be marked as Featured Gear next season. All new exotics from Season Reclamation will also be included as part of the Season Lawless Featured Gear. Guys, are y'all understanding what's happening here?
Just remove it? What are you talking about? What this means is your gear that's good right now with its damage resist...
and all the other bells and whistles will still be good in the next expansion. It's there won't be a hard reset on your gear. You will have a level reset. Yes, there will be a level reset, but the act of leveling should be better.
Now, new gear bonus will be changing for the season lawless artifact. Starting in season lawless, the new gear bonus will be a flat bonus for all featured gear. It will no longer be tiered as it is currently in season reclamation and will be a max five percent damage for weapons and a max ten percent damage resistance for armor the new gear bonus will be changing for the season lawless artifact starting in season lawless the new gear bonus will be a flat bonus for all featured gear it will no longer be tiered as it is currently in season reclamation and will be a max five percent damage for weapons and a max ten percent damage resist for armor i see Okay. No, no, no, no. Do y'all not understand what's being said?
It's going to... Oh, God. You guys got to calm the f*** out.
Tier 1 armor will give you the same damage resist as tier 5 armor. Your tier 1 weapon will give you the same damage buff as your tier 5 weapon. They're not removing your tears. They're not going to suddenly take your armor and say, you know what? We're going to turn this into legacy gear.
Well, you can sit there and say, hey, you know, doesn't that suck? Isn't there supposed to be an incentive for getting tier five loot? Sure. I see where you're coming with that.
At the same time, I think the... The drip and the all enhanced perks and the three traits per column. That's the real reason. You know, whether we go from 4% to 6% or to 8% or whatever.
You know what I mean? Now, this is still getting a pullback. Because right now, your gear, your tier 5, I think does 10% more damage.
And you take 15% less damage. And so they're pulling this back to 5 and doing 10% for the armor instead of 15. It's objectively a nerf. Yeah, I just don't give a shit.
Like, I don't give a shit about the 5% buff. I'm not looking at that going, oh my God, that's 5% right there. You know what I'm coming from?
Or even 10%. Even on the 10% front, you know what I mean? I'm completely fine with like weapons being on the same level ground and your weapon is better than the next weapon purely based on trade combination. That's it. trait combination and enhanced perks not a stamp that says boom this thing does five percent more damage epic raid update release date and rolled first streaming requirements Okay.
There are streaming requirements. In an effort to provide a stable and high-quality experience, we have made a decision to delay the epic raid by one week. This activity will now ship on Saturday, September 27th, and the rules first race will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific. Contest mode will be active through September 29th, ending at 10 a.m.
Pacific. We understand that this may create challenges for some in scheduling, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Our highest priority is to ensure a fun, smooth experience not only during the race, but for all players who wish to take on contest difficulty or play the Epic Raid once Normal Mode becomes available.
Additionally, we've created new rules for the upcoming Rules First race, including a list of streaming requirements. These requirements are both for verification purposes, to combat cheaters, and to improve the overall viewing experience for our players watching streams. We will use this race to test out these requirements, and based on the outcome and player feedback, we will make additional changes to these rules in future races.
So the following will be required if teams wish to be in contention of being ruled first. Number one, streaming is required, but only one member of the six variety members has to stream. Number two, the stream must be on YouTube or Twitch. GG, Skick. Number three, the stream must be set to video on demand bod so they can go back and look at it.
They need to be able to go back and look at it. Number four, Number 4: If the team member wants to hide portions of their screens, they must use an overlay provided by Bungie Destiny: The Game and cannot use additional overlays to block other portions of their stream, even as a joke. this stream overlay will hide portions of the screens during the competition.
expect this to be published in the coming weeks it may be edited to add your branding and face but no additional gameplay content may be covered and number three if you wish to compete yet have no desire to cover your screen awesome don't worry about it and number five the team member who streams cannot black out or hide their screen or portion of the screen outside the provided overlay and number six game audio must be on at all times but players may mute their voice audio. Okay. Damn. I was not expecting Bungie to do that, man. I was not expecting Bungie to do that.
I thought they were just gonna say, okay, you do have to stream, but I wasn't expecting them to get into the overlay to talk about people blocking out things. This is going to be a hell of a crackdown. And look, keep in mind, guys, it had to happen. 70% of the people that completed the Day 1 raid for Desert Perpetual were cheaters.
You gotta have a system here that can govern this. And guess what? People are still gonna try to cheat.
You know, and there's still gonna be cheaters that get the Day 1 emblem, but they won't be in contention for Worlds First. Destiny 2 Update 9.1.0 Patch Note Preview. In addition to the upcoming port of changes to be highlighted above and in prior twids, here's a short preview of other smaller changes and fixes coming with Update 9.1.0 next week. Shooting range now features customizable difficulty from the portal, including access to most of the same modifiers available on a given day. God, that's such a good change.
One of the biggest annoyances right now when testing Temporal Blast is it changes because it's damage dependent. And so being able to actually choose the difficulty... You could test Temporal Blast at multiple levels. Grandmaster level, whatever else. Different deltas.
Updated portal scoring grading information in the post-game carnage report screen. Good deal. Banshee will once again offer the quest to acquire the catalyst for Tommy's matchbook.
Lobby balancing and trials will be disabled. Fixing issue in the duality dungeon preventing players from being teleported to the Nightmare Realm when playing outmaster difficulty. Trial Special Ammo Meter has been increased. More details next week. Update to selectable modifier saving when repeating activities to only save and reapply modifiers that the user selected.
Okay. Good deal. Good changes, man. Good changes.
The Edge of Fate voice acting update. Earlier this year, we announced that some voice talent was unavailable to record lines for the Edge of Fate and that temporary performances for Ikora, Oren, and Kiyoma were going to be used. We're happy to announce that with the launch of Ashen Hour next week, the original English voice talent for Ikora, Oren, and Kiyoma have returned with newly recorded lines for their characters. We're also excited to share that French and Spanish voice actors are in the process of recording their lines, which we expect to ship out with Destiny 2 Renegades later this year. Good.
Can I just say, I thought Orange VA was actually good. Who's gonna speak for, like, I understand Ikora, but I thought I really like Orange VA. Like, the the current one the one that was you know not the original i humble choice destitute legacy collection 2025. heads up guardians the destitute legacy collection 2025 will join humble bundles september humble choice selection this bundle is the definitive way to experience years of destiny camp destiny 2 campaigns raids and more plus included with the purchase is a 30 off coupon for destitute euro prophecy edition humble bundle redeemable on steam It's the past and future of Destiny 2, and it's only a click away. El Centro de la Raza. Yes, yes, yes. Through the budget foundation campaign, we'll earn the Revivi emblem for Destiny 2. September 30th, 2025, all net proceeds will go to that same thing. That's fantastic.
Guys, that is awesome. That's a sexy emblem too. Yep, yep. Let's go, Ken. All right, budget rewards, heavy metal title pin.
Let's go. It's there, yes. Claim your seasonal challenge before Tuesday. Upcoming issues will display gear power.
Tuesday, an update to an issue. Update 9.1 will include an issue where some gear may display a different number instead of their power. When this happens, the item's display power will match a stat on the item, and it can't be updated within Fusion.
This is purely a visual issue, and the item's actual power will not be affected. access to content difficulty when facing combatants and rewards will also not be impacted the cause of the issue has been identified and we are planning a fix for an upcoming updates all right so if your power level next week says banana don't be concerned it's just a visual thing these are unknown issues and then our final notes it's been a shorter week than usual due to labor day in the us so trying to wrangle all our teams together for this twid has made it come in extremely hot even so we wanted to give you as much information we can about next week's release And what's ahead? There's going to be a lot happening and more is on the way. Thanks for being on this journey with us. We hope you're excited to be in ironclad while kicking ash in the Plague Lens.

The leveling process from 400 to 450 or 500 to 550 is about to be substantially better. Puh! What is y'all's thoughts? Nothing crazy for such a delayed TWAB.
Oh my God, dude. Look, look, look. Back in my day, we didn't get a TWAB till 8 p.m.
sometimes. All right? Back in my day, I used to just wander around for hours in the afternoon waiting for a TWAB that could potentially drop at any moment. Back then, they were busy making a good game.
Oh my God, brother. Let me tell you something. That hurts.
That hurts. That hurts man that one stings slide that like button like your mama told you right?
