Overview
The lecture discusses various ongoing issues and disappointments with the video game Destiny 2, particularly in relation to the game company Bungie.
Focus is on the problems encountered during a specific event called "The Dawning," characterized by many bugs and glitches.
Main Issues with "The Dawning"
Bugs and Glitches: Several issues reported such as quest progression problems and event card pricing glitches.
Glitches fixed relatively quickly, but their initial presence is concerning.
Event Card Pricing: Event card was free for an hour due to a glitch, causing frustration among players who missed the opportunity.
Snowballs Mechanic: Limited integration and placement of the snowballs feature within the game.
Criticism of Bungie's Approach
Focus on Revenue: Perception that Bungie's decisions are driven by monetary gain rather than improving player experience.
Ex: $10 event card despite initial free access due to glitch.
Quality Assurance Concerns: Criticism of Bungie’s quality assurance processes, especially after reported layoffs.
Community Response
Players feel neglected and frustrated by the lack of meaningful content and repeated issues.
The community has been vocal about these issues, but feels ignored.
Suggestions for Improvement
Make Events More Engaging: Suggestions include adding fun and goofy elements, like a snow globe horde mode or more interactive snowball mechanics.
Improve Loot and Reward System: Addressing the grind and reward balance to make gameplay more rewarding and less frustrating.
Improve Communication and Transparency: Asking Bungie to better communicate with the community and make decisions that foster goodwill.
Comparisons with Other Games
Other games have more engaging and content-rich holiday events.
Destiny 2's Dawning event feels lackluster in comparison.
Potential Consequences
Declining player numbers pose a risk to the game's continued success and profitability.
Potential focus shift to other projects like Bungie's "Marathon" if it proves more profitable.
Personal Reflections
The speaker is a long-time fan of Destiny 2 and expresses sadness over its current trajectory, while remaining hopeful for positive changes.
Urges Bungie to focus on quality assurance and make decisions that enhance player experience.
Expresses a desire for the game to succeed by implementing constructive changes.

Oh, Bungie. Why? I mean, I'm not even mad.
I'm just very sad. Like, this is sad to see, like, watching this kind of stuff unfold on Destiny 2 and with Bungie and everything, but my gosh, this whole episode has been filled with many bugs and glitches. Like, I just, I don't know.
It's just, it's been really bad. And now, The Dawning, an event that doesn't... really change at all other than maybe like one new weapon which they do and uh i guess we got a treat for nimbus hooray i guess whoa content and yet even though it's just so small of a like a you know new stuff we get all these problems still where we're getting glitches where people can't progress the quest or the quest is reset or acting weird or whatever that was happening apparently it was a it was a problem with the quest and uh i think they thankfully have fixed it since then but uh then you have the event card not even having a price tag on it and uh they turn that off within an hour which that doesn't look good on the uh the outside i can understand like it's like okay they've done this before where there's like something game breaking so it's not just like an eververse thing that they're focusing just the money but it does look bad though But they turned that off. They fixed that within like four hours on the same day.
Also, apologies if I sound weird. My voice has been going out the door. I've been doing a lot of yelling and I shouldn't be doing that.
I should be relaxing my voice. But here I am. So if I sound a little bit weird, that's why. I've been also fighting a cold in the past, so that probably played a big role.
But regardless, Bungie. Is having a lot of issues with these glitches and bugs. And I just...
Dawning is just a disaster because of this. I mean, there was even a problem with weapon focusing. Which, again, these issues, thankfully, I think most, if not all, have been fixed.
So, like, it's nice that they, you know, got these things sorted out, like, really quickly. But the thing is, how does this stuff even happen in the first place? Like...
probably because they laid off a lot of their QA team, but how? The dawning of all things that doesn't even change at all. And we're having issues.
How does this kind of stuff happen? And I understand that, like, a lot of these issues are just, you know, small, but regardless, any negativity to Destiny 2 is not good. Because everyone on the outside looking in...
Like what's going on at, you know, Bungie with Destiny 2 or whatever. Anything that's a bad thing makes them not want to play. I mean, you have all these other holiday events and other games that are actually like content.
Things that you can experience and have fun with. But Dawning is just, it's just, you play the game, but you get ingredients to then get loot. To make treats, to then send the treats, and then you get the boxes, and then you can focus.
and then there's snowballs which the snowballs thing is a little bit weird uh on how that works um because it's only in like select locations i think it's like only in strikes really like you can't use snowballs and dungeons and raids and heck we even did onslaught and there was no snowballs i'm like really the the new the the in season or in episode activity and it doesn't have snowballs like they did not try fellas At this rate, they just make these events to make money off of, and they do nothing else at this rate, which makes it look bad. And it's disappointing. But when it comes to the event card, yeah, they turned that off within an hour. It was free for an hour.
The ironic part was I didn't get it for free because I was busy still making the wallet skit. I was finishing it up. That's ironic.
A wallet complaining about spending money, and there was a free thing in the background that I could have gotten. If I wasn't trying to finish the wallet skit. But the thing is, is that at least they, for those that did get it for free, they don't have to buy it again.
They just get to keep it for free. But at that rate, you might as well just keep it free for everyone. Like, it's so crazy that they're still like, no, we want to get every little bit of money out of you.
Like, they might as well just say that. They just want to pick those dollars out of your pocket no matter what. Like, with all these other issues that they had with Dawning, and not even just Dawning, but this episode alone with, like, the perk waning, which, at first, they tried to disregard and say, oh, no, that doesn't exist.
You're full of it. And the community doubled down. And Bungie was like, oh, crap.
Yeah, the community's on to something. That's crazy. I don't even know how many years this perk waiting has been a thing. But it was there.
And, yeah, you would think that as, like, an apology on top of that. Like, I know that they're doing, like, the loot thing and the gunsmith. But just focus on good faith with your community.
Make that event card free. I mean. You're going to be selling another set of armor in the next act.
It was already data mined. They have so much Eververse stuff throughout this whole episode, and yet they still need to ensure that $10 event card is $10. Even for the people that missed out. Are you serious? Were that...
desperate like i understand that they're probably like oh we gotta make money because they've been losing money but i don't think this is what has been just a downward spiral for bungie it has when they do this kind of focus that is wrong which is money and play time like they make horrible decisions to ensure money is still like going into their pockets even if it's it means that they get bad press which that's why i was saying that if they were to be like hey everyone As a holiday gift for all of you, this event card is just going to stay free for everyone. People would be like, you know what? Thank you, Bungie. That's very nice of you.
There would be, like, no one would be fully complaining. But the fact that they were like, oh, well, if you missed out, it'll still be $10. They don't care. They don't care.
They don't care that people are now in the responses being like, well, I work a nine to five. I can't blame I missed this. So thanks.
Thanks, Bungie. You know, it's like, it's so sad. I was seeing a lot of the replies of people just really upset because they were working a job or they were a little bit late and they missed out on it.
Like, like it's just really, oh, it's just bad. Uh, and then they, they make decisions for playtime. Like I did a full hour, 20 minute, 50 waves of expert onslaught.
All of my friends, including myself did not get a single. shiny quote-unquote shiny which is just a fully masterwork double perk weapon not one not one are you kidding me and no response from bungee this whole time about it because they're like oh you know it gets that play time but it does the exact opposite people get fatigued i see even like with all of your comments fellas like that you're fatigued if they were to make things at least like worth your time things would be better. And I know that there's people that, oh, well, it's a looter shooter.
They shouldn't just give you things. No, I explained in great detail on how they can make it still a grind. Like, I want to, like, it's so funny that people are like, oh, you don't want to make it casual. How many of you have reset your rank six plus times for Ido? Six plus times.
I think that I've reset maybe three, maybe four. Like, it's a grind to reset your rank a bunch of times, but I mentioned that what if you reset your rank, like, continuously, you start to get more perks to your weapons. And you can also chance on getting adept shiny versions. As a peak grind that's super RNG, still having some unique thing to it. I don't want it to be casual, but Bungie, the way that they're doing it right now with all the things, it's bad.
But with Dawning, how? How are we making these decisions? And with all these bugs, like the focusing bug on weapons, there was the quest bug, the triumph bug, which they fixed by just auto-completing it, I guess. All these problems, and the event is the same.
How does this happen? How? Like, I would be more understanding if they had an activity, like SRL, or the thing that I mentioned where it's like an onslaught horde mode in a snow globe. And you got a bunch of like...
you know ice themed enemies they bring back the ice hive they have stasis enemies whatever um like and you get to throw snowballs and it would be fun and have like goofy ideas like i don't know like all the uh defenses are snow related like maybe the turret is like shooting a bunch of snowballs and it's like a snowman head i don't know like it's spitting out snowballs out of its head why can't we have fun things that are goofy why oh the eververse could do it oh yeah but but not the actual game no we can't do that like we don't even have a mode this all dawning is is basically bright dust the event and you know getting a lot of materials and stuff like it's Like, Dawning is good. Like, for us, like, you know, hardcore players in Destiny already, Dawning's great. I feel like it's the most rewarding event for loot and stuff. But for somebody that just, you know, wants to play video games, they're going to look at Dawning and be like, why would I even play this? It's not even, like, a holiday event.
They're going to go to Call of Duty where they have, like, a holiday map. They have a... holiday zombies. They have holiday modes and stuff. Like, they have all this stuff.
And then you have all these other games as well doing holiday events that are huge. Or at least, like, something unique to play that is in the game. And it's only there for the time being. People are going to be looking at Destiny and be like, what do they have? And they, oh, it's just making treats?
Well, why would I play this when I could go... To this game that has more unique stuff. There is snowballs.
But the snowballs is just sad. Like I've been saying that snowballs should be in raids and dungeons. As a fun thing to add to the experience. But they don't do that. Even like certain strikes.
You can do the snowballs and strikes. But there was like snowball like placements. On like some strikes. But then other strikes they didn't. they did not have that you could go into forge and place those down they're they're like capture points in forge like i'm not a dev but i i know exactly what it is it's just you you copy paste place it into the map that's it it's i don't know at this rate it's just it's just sad and for those of you who are like you Well, if you complain about the game, then why are you playing?
I love this game. Man, I hate Destiny 2. It's my favorite game. That quote, that meme is true.
We love Destiny. There hasn't been a game like Destiny. I know that a lot of you are like, well, Warframe. Warframe's Warframe. It's not Destiny.
Yes, there's aspects of Destiny in Warframe, except even more better stuff that Destiny should have, but it doesn't. play like Destiny. It doesn't feel like Destiny. It's Warframe.
There's not a game like Destiny that plays like Destiny. And it's just sad to see it go down this route when I want it to succeed. Every time I make these videos, I'm trying to criticize these things, so then Bungie would hopefully get a clue and make things better.
Like I said, just the event card alone, it shocked me that they... Actually, we're like, yeah, no, let's still make it $10. I don't think you're reading the room, Bungie. You've been making mistake after mistake after mistake with bad press here and there. The public eye just doesn't care for your game.
People who have left, they don't want to come back. And you're still trying to nickel and dime your hardcore fans? Really? Wow.
And again, you're going to have more Eververse stuff in Act 3. It's already been data mined. It's just like strand armor or something like that. I mean, I want it, but an event card needs to be $10?
Come on. Come on. If you're that worried about money, why don't you bring back Crimson Days for February and have a $10 event card there? Be like, you know what, let's bring back Crimson Days, make some Valentine's stuff, and there we go. Now we'll sell that one for $10 to make up what we lost or whatever from Donning.
No, no, we can't do that either. It's sad, everyone. And for those of you who are like, ah, everything's fine kind of attitude, the player numbers are going down. And that's not good.
When players are not playing, that's money gone. And... When money gone, that means Destiny no-get content.
Destiny probably even will not exist. If Marathon does better, I mean, hypothetically, if Marathon does better than Destiny 2 in financials, like two times more money or four times, they're going to just try and ignore Destiny. That's going to happen for all of you that are like, oh, I just love Destiny.
They need to make Destiny better. By making good decisions rather than being like, you know, gaslight the community being like, well, we tried everything with Gambit, but no one played Gambit. You didn't try with anything with Gambit Bungie. Stop trying to gaslight us. Stop it.
It was not good. You removed, you know, all this stuff, like the Gambit Prime stuff, and you're like, well, we tried everything, and no one's playing Gambit. Like, let's not do that with Destiny 2. Well, we tried everything with Destiny 2. What do you mean you tried? There's been so many glitches and bugs and loot problems and bad decisions and...
What? I mean, Final Shape was amazing, but everything after the fact has been bad. Has it not?
And if you're enjoying the game, that's good. I mean, I still can have fun getting on Destiny 2, doing some Onslaught, you know, just playing the game, making builds. I love the gameplay.
But the moment, it's just, I have to realize I'm spending all this time not getting anything, though, out of the game. Like how I did an expert Onslaught to not get a single double perk weapon. And I'm like, I could have been doing this game.
or that game like it's just this is why it's just so disappointing and i know that a lot of you feel the same i see your comments but the reason why i keep at this game is because and i keep making these videos is because i want things to change i want things to get better for the game that's what i want i this is why i would assume all of you would want the same uh it's just i've always been like that that you know, middle ground, where it's like, I can understand why people are really, really mad, but I can also understand why people are very apologetic for the things that Bungie is, you know, doing and with Destiny 2 and stuff like that. Like, I just want the game to do well. I just want it to not have all these issues.
And yeah, Dawning is just a huge disappointment, because these issues alone really... ruins the vibe but then on top of that it's just just a it's just a it's just a pile of all these problems just adding up through previously to then leading up to now like what's act three gonna bring oh gosh like what is we're not even done with this episode and i feel like there's been like a whole lot of problems and it's just why and a whole lot of not good decisions it's just something needs to change it really it really does um but yeah i i know that i i just i'm spending all this time just you know just way i know i complain i see i see some of the comments oh stop complaining i i'm just disappointed i'm not trying to complain i'm criticizing but i I genuinely want the game to do well. That's why it gets so frustrating when I talk about this stuff. And I get so like, just in the moment of talking about it, because how, why, why it's, it's sad. If they, like I said, I think that at this rate, they, there needs to be some, you know, actual, you know, quality assurance going on here.
And then from there, like, uh, I don't know. Let's make some good decisions going forward. On loot.
On you know just like the Eververse store. Like making some nice quality changes to that. Or something. I mean even just it's crazy.
Again they don't even do discounts. On old stuff. From like even just D2 vanilla.
Armor sets. Ornaments. They're still full price. Like.
That's crazy to me. So, I don't know. I don't know.
But I genuinely do hope that you're all having a great holiday season. Whatever you're playing, if you're playing Destiny 2 or some other game, hope you're enjoying those games. I, for one, have been jumping games a lot.
So, for a lot of you that are like, oh, you need to take a break. I've played maybe Destiny, if lucky, once a week. For like... Maybe six, seven hours. Once a week.
But there's been weeks where I skipped. And if you want, you can check our streams out. You know, I stream a decent amount of times every day.
Like, normally around the evening time. And I'm playing all kinds of different things. So, you know, you should check it out. But, yeah.
Regardless, this is... Grinch stole Bungie at this rate. Like, um, when it comes to this holiday season with dawning, but I, I, I really do.
I just, I, yeah, that's it. That's all. I don't know what to say.
Other than I, like I said, it's just sad to see I'm disappointed. And it's, if this continues down this route, it's going to lead into a lot of apathy. And you don't want that at all for, for a game. Cause that's what really will destroy it. But regardless, I hope you have a cheapy task day, night, evening, wherever you are.
And happy holidays, everyone.
