Destiny 2's Exciting 2025 Update Plans
as we head into 2025 Destiny 2 we'll be seeing some very significant updates and changes according to bung as they chees there will be a new content structure for the game on top of that though bung are very much aware that the community in the player base for Destiny 2 are looking for significant changes and a shape up really on how bung approach content designed for Destiny but also rewards progression the general investment into the game and there's a strong desire from all of us as players to see Bungie do things which are far more experimental more daring and interesting in terms of how well actually engag with Destiny 2 buo made a lot of promises about how they aim to approach that so in this video we're going to round up everything we know about 2025 for Destiny 2 and what bung you have planned to hopefully engage or re-engage players moving forward so if you're curious about all of that stuff we'll try and do a concise Roundup of the important things here in the video if you enjoy it guys a rating below really does help us out but now without further delay let's get into it the first thing to talk about is the content format moving forward we've had Seasons we've had episodes which are essentially Seasons with a different name and of course annual expansions now bunge have said we'll still be getting two expansions per year or at least that is the plan for Frontiers which is the code name for 2025 in Destiny essentially and from the road map they revealed right here in summer of 2025 we'll get the first expansion which is code named Apollo and then winter we'll see a second expansion with the code name Behemoth and then alongside and in between those big drops the game will get major updates which essentially will be the seasons of Destiny 2 so there'll be a major update alongside the Apollo expansion in the summer and an additional major update which will come in the fall of 2025 ahead of the next expansion and those seasonal style updates will include rewards passes legendary weapon and armor ornaments gear upgrade resources cosmetics and more while the expansions of course will focus on new stories location New Missions and their major updates for weapons gear and raids and dungeons for the end of 2025 we'll get yet another expansion in the winter which has a seasonal major update followed by another seasonal update at the start of 2026 Buju additionally recently outlined that a lot of the code name Apollo is content complete in terms of the destination so they've made good progress on that and they're finishing polishing the nonlinear campaign gameplay experiences and the finer details of the world questing and progression for those pieces of expansion content they've said as well that they'll be offering lots of play Tes and opportunities to community members with multiple Summits planned in the coming months which will hopefully provide Bungie with some valuable actionable feedback and of course they've provided imagery both for the broader concept of their upcoming content drops and even destination teasers there as well importantly though they've said we're excited to try new things that challenge players ideas of what a destiny experience could be were actively prototyping nonlinear campaigns exploration EXP experiences similar to the dreaming City or metroid viners and even more unusual formats like Rog likes or survival Shooters and they're targeting each expansion presenting a new opportunity to try something different in terms of Destiny Gameplay and that's a really big one I think overall is that we want Bungie to look at new ways to sort of engage us make the content interesting replayable and to provide value around progression in the game one of those components of course is the nonlinear campaign as they refer to it and they say the more you play and discover the more the story progresses so experiencing a certain number of threads opens up the next part of the story and the order in which you explore will be something that players get to choose themselves with no time gating and the story unfolding based on player progression so that's interesting and I think there'll be a lot of work to do with that format in terms of making sure it doesn't feel like seasonal storytelling right that's the only risk I see with it being sort of ques toied in this particular way otherwise though they've spoken a lot about the discoverability of content in the game one of the big changes that we'll see for these expansions is the introduction of the portal screen which will be the new default activity selection screen so this is basically what we'll land on every time we open up the game and the goal is for it to do a better job of highlighting featured content in the game for the week and some of those pieces are feature content will indeed be different playlists so things like solo Ops and fire team Ops as Bungie have discussed Pinnacle Ops which obviously is going to be more of an endgame Focus thing than Crucible and event Focus content which might be refreshing ing for existing players but I think is largely targeted at newer players and making the game easier to actually understand in terms of what should I be playing and how can I progress and further on that subject for solo players bungee are introducing this solo Ops playlist and they've said these are activities aimed at short playtimes and manageable for solo players the target base time for these activities is 10 minutes and each of them will emphasize the fun of Destiny's Combat Action gameplay presenting players with straightforward objectives that focus on Gunplay solo ops mission aren't intended to be intense tests of build crafting power or someb skill but instead we want them to focus on the joy of playing Destiny's action sandbox in a way that is easy to jump into and play in just a few minutes and I've said solo Ops will support scoring and challenge customization like many other activities in the game so players will be able to assign essentially the difficulty level the additional challenges and modifiers for these activities and will be able to do that with a lot of activities in these upcoming expansions which will have an influence on the rewards and they say this will allow players to make incremental progress towards better and more powerful gear as well as supporting customization with scoring contributing to the quality of loot overall but they've said as well we're trying to construct these missions in a way that getting a good score is more about moving shooting and looting rather than being determined by loadouts for the missions themselves there'll be scatterings of treasure chests rewards and essentially new ways for Solo or newer players to engage with the game in a more meaningful way so that's going to be interesting having said that they've also revealed that they've got further plans for endgame content such as raid challenge updates so we'll get a new raid in code name Apollo the first expansion and they say in the first major update after that the raid will receive a challenge update which adds new rewards mechanics Feats and potentially even new Encounters this update will kick off with another raid race and be an Avenue for experienced players to further challenge their skills so because we'll be getting one major raid a year the raid will essentially get an expansion pass now instead of simply being forgotten that is quite an interesting concept which could actually work quite well if it's delivered in the right way right it needs to be substantial enough however bung are still committed to dungeon content as well so after the new raid in the middle of the year the second expansion will include a brand new dungeon which will not require a separate dungeon key so these are now being wound into the core drops of content in the year which is good and the reward offering for dungeons will be expanded to include full weapon and armor sets which are on par with rates on that as well bue planned to bring back a Pantheon style raid test and in the fourth major update of the Year towards the end of the year they're planning for another event that introduces novelty and allows the team to experiment with Legacy raid and dungeon offerings to create surprising aspirational challenges so a new variant of Pantheon essentially is something that we're going to see so a new expansion type a new Destination type A rework to how we engaged with raid and endgame content including for solo players with this new playlist and of course a big shake up to how story content is delivered all of those things kind of affect the gameplay part and then there are the reward updates so bunge will be introducing weapon and armor tiers and they say legendary weapons and armor will be available in a deeper range of quality tiers that layer on properties like stat bonuses enhanced perks and other benefits so for weapons this will be similar to how Adept weapons upgrade the Baseline legendary the Baseline tier of legendary weapons and armor will be equivalent to the current day legendaries with higher tiers being generally equivalent to with Dept weapons in terms of upgrades and part of this reward structure will connect directly to that challenge customization component that Bungie mentioned so for a solo player for instance if you were running a base solo Ops you might get a tier one legendary but as we introduce more challenges increase the number of modifiers that are active and things like that obviously the activity will get more difficult and in turn we'll be able to earn higher tier rewards right so the weapons that we're picking up for example are more likely to be in line with ad depth weapons and that won't only affect Ops but of course will also be affected in endgame content whether it's raids Dungeons and presumably potentially nightfalls and things like that as well that's possibly where the Pinnacle Ops portion will come into play similarly there'll be updates for Arma and bung are calling this next gen armor so stats on Armor will be changing with Frontiers in order to make them more player friendly the first major change is the mechanics of the stats themselves and Stat effects will no longer be tiered every 10 points but every point in a stat will provide a benefit this change is intended to reduce the lockin effect that happens when a fine-tuned combination of stat values make it feel impossible to switch out to any other armor piece they say stat effects will be capped at 200 with a range of 101 to 200 providing additional powerful effect building on the Baseline effects and the Chang is intended to support deeper investment in a smaller number of stats and spikier Stat distributions on armor with fewer secondary dump stats so the goal is for those stats to essentially be more meaningful but also more bued and these armor pieces will also drop with a stat archetype which determines the primary and secondary stat types with a third stat being a free roll so it will be a way to essentially glance at an armor piece as we can see on the preview a brawler armor archetype where the primary stat is strength secondary is discipline and then the free roll or tertiary stat being intellect it also looks like set bonuses could feature into these armor pieces a little more as well from that preview so overall considering bung are focused on a new content Dro in it self for both Apollo and Behemoth there also are a lot of very significant quality of life updates and changes that bung are targeting this is pretty ambitious as they're trying to make weapons and armor far more interesting with a sort of new approach to power in the game in that respect and between the updates to rewards and the stuff that we mentioned regarding the destination the way that campaigns have run weekly and daily interactions with featured content in the game there's certainly a lot for Bungie to deliver on here based on what they've said so that is a pretty over barking preview of Bungie's plans for the future of the game and they've said as well they may be a little quiet with regards to these updates in the early part of 2025 but certainly after heresy has dropped which again is only just over a month away right now this will become the next big part of the conversation and importantly the things that bung have outlined here these are the ways that they plan to engage players get people back into Destiny and demonstrate their commitment to the future of the title so very high stake stuff on paper right now these are loose plans so we're going to have to see how it all pans out once we actually get reveals I'd say it certainly has the potential to be interest in and otherwise if I had to throw my two cents in there Bungie I think need to add the fun back into popping into Destiny it goes to show how pretty small things can have a big impact on player engagement you know even when Bungie added the skimmer early in 2024 there was a spike in the amount of players actually coming into Destiny just because it was something ever so slightly different I'm not saying that that is what Bungie need to do to save the game but we need more experiences like that where it's like here's a totally different type of mechanic something that looks and feels different also Bungie bring back srl make more modes which are like that even Gambit is a good example I'm not saying everyone loves playing Gambit right now but at the time when it dropped it was an experimental mode something completely different and it did a good job of engaging players in that period of time but you need to iterate faster on fun interesting ways to play Destiny and I think that has to be a part of their plans over the next year that's my two cents on top of what they've discussed otherwise the proof will be in the pudding and bung are going to be hard at work over the next few months we certainly hope give us your thoughts down below do you think these sound like interesting ways to engage players
