The Bungie Edge of Fate developer live stream primarily recapped previously shared information about the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, offering a few new details, especially on gameplay and quality of life changes. Community feedback was mixed, with calls for more exciting, original content and concerns about the direction of future updates.

New Weapon Archetypes and Frames

  • Bungie introduced a crossbow heavy weapon archetype with retrievable bolts and varied bolt effects.

  • Three new weapon frames were showcased: spreadshot hand cannon (primary ammo, shotgun perks), high impact longbow (primary ammo, slow draw, penetration), and rocket assisted pulse rifle (special ammo, high damage).

  • Damage values for weapons have been globally reduced (damage squish), simplifying comparisons across content.

Sandbox and Gameplay Changes

  • Gambler's Dodge for Hunters now refunds melee energy based on stats, regardless of enemy proximity, leading to potential PvP implications.

  • Introduction of deterministic ammo drops, allowing for more predictable heavy and special ammo acquisition.

Enemies and Lore Updates

  • Brief lore recaps about the Aeonians and House of Exile; little new narrative content revealed.

  • New enemy types shown: shielded Banees (impenetrable except from behind) and returning Screebs causing additional spawns upon death.

Gear, Mods, and Stat Updates

  • New gear tiers will provide direct damage and resistance bonuses, scaling up to 15% resistance and 10% increased damage at tier five.

  • Featured gear lists include both old and new exotics; concerns raised about limited meta and player choice.

  • Artifact mods and seasonal mod updates hinted at more synergy options and added rows in major upcoming updates.

  • Armor fragments continue to provide stat bonuses, streamlined to match new Edge of Fate systems.

Community Feedback and Format Critique

  • Many viewers expressed disappointment over the lack of new content, with criticism that the live stream was largely a recap.

  • Shift observed from highly edited, info-heavy "ViDocs" to more conversational developer streams.

  • Embargo timing and early content creator access may have diluted the impact of official reveals.

Expansion Structure and Player Sentiment

  • Edge of Fate and Renegades are mini-expansions, leading to concerns about the scale and novelty of updates.

  • Community desires include new destinations, exotics, subclasses, and substantial ability reworks.

  • Quality of life changes welcomed by veterans, but seen as insufficient by some to re-engage lapsed players.

  • Bungie advised to communicate major upcoming features and avoid community apathy.

Recommendations / Advice

  • Bungie should reveal major, exciting features earlier to build hype and address player concerns about new content.

  • Focus on showcasing substantive gameplay and narrative improvements in upcoming communications to re-engage the community.

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Update

yesterday Bungie delivered their Edge of Fate developer live stream now normally when Bungie does one of these live streams we're hit with a ton of new information surrounding the upcoming expansion we then follow up immediately with a breakdown summarizing everything we've learned however this time it's a little bit different we'll be covering everything in today's video things you may have missed a TLDDR if you will but unfortunately it will be a little bit less as a good portion of the stream was more of a recap of what creators already covered which left a lot of viewers perplexed during the live stream the overwhelming sentiment after the conclusion of the stream was quote "We've already seen all this where is the new information this could have been a twop." Hell our number one comment on our most recent upload of the stream was "This could have been an email." No lie man you guys are brutal okay I'm just saying good god who made you like this huh don't be blaming me man now I do want to reiterate that what we saw were good things especially if you have not been keeping up with what's coming in this next expansion we got to look at the shooting range in more depth our exotics in more depth tier five weapons and armor edge of Fate is definitely looking to be a year all about quality of life changes but is that enough granted we have a lot of time from now and until the launch and between that we'll have another live stream next Tuesday blog post on Wednesday multiple TWABS so far the sentiment across the community has not been overly positive leading us all to ask is this enough now before we even tackle that question we need to first just cover the details revealed to us during Bungie's live stream arguably the highest point of the stream was when Bungie revealed the new weapon archetype called the crossbow it's a crossbow it functions very similar to a bow but it will live only in our heavy weapon slots and it fires bolts that you can actually pick up and refund indefinitely now it's kind of hard to tell how much damage it was putting out it wasn't necessarily crazy like Levi's breath level but keep in mind this is a legendary weapon not an exotic and if you notice all the numbers in general are much smaller that's because Bungie has actually squished all the damage values down across the board which theoretically means all of our damage should be the same whatever content we jump into now Vivien did mention different bolt types that can explode or deal additional damage when they're removed from a target definitely a weapon we're going to be testing guys we've been asking for a crossbow for so long now that I almost forgot that we asked for it now there are also three new weapon frames arriving in Edge of Fate which looks so good you've got the spreadshot hand cannon the high impact longbow and the rocket assisted pulse rifle now the spreadshot hand cannon is a crossover between a shotgun and a hand cannon it uses primary ammo it has very short range bungie essentially said it's like a sawoff shotgun but looks like a hand cannon and what's even crazier is that it has perks from a shotgun present on it things like one two punch really cool looking weapon guys i'm really curious to see how this plays in the live game then we got the high impact long bow this uses primary ammo has a very slow draw speed but it has intrinsic penetration and deals more damage now honestly the weapon that caught all of our attention was the rocket assisted pulse rifle this uses special ammo but sits between a fusion rifle and a pulse rifle in terms of range and it does a chunky amount of damage guys it does have a smaller ammo economy than rocket assist sidearms but you can see how much damage it actually puts out which I'm going to go ahead and say rocket assisted pulse rifles may be the next meta and I actually like that the burst pattern is a little more deliberate and slowed down between shots it just makes sense as a rocket assisted pulse next up Gamblers's Dodge is being reworked to refund melee energy based on your melee ability stats however it no longer requires you to be within close proximity of enemies i cannot understate just how massive of a change this is for Hunter players if you have a melee stat of 70 you will get a full refund of your melee and anything above will refund beyond 100% so for instance if you have an exotic that holds multiple charges for your melee this will refund up to 1 one/3 of those two melees i think the big takeaway for this guys is that you can pretty much always have your melee on hand which no lie scares the hell out of me i can only imagine what this is going to be like in PvP with constant smokes everywhere you don't even have to be close to your enemy just boom dodge melee throw another smoke now we got some small looks at the Aeonians these were humans sent to investigate a dormant singularity on Kepler they both observe and survive the collapse the House of Exile arrived on Kepler during the dark ages but they slowly became corrupted by the dark matter that they converted into ether to survive now lore-wise nothing was really shown in this stream guys as the focus of this stream was primarily on sandbox changes now they also showed fragments for subasses essentially they're going to still provide armor stat points it's just been updated to match the new stats in Edge of Eight which is something we've already covered in great depth guys essentially we're getting a ton of different stat changes in Edge of Fate the ability to go up to 200 as well as a weapon bonus which yes you'll be able to build into for both PvE and PvP which will give you straight up more damage now throughout the game play you probably see it right there guys down below you'll see a special and heavy meter for the first time ever we are going to have the ability to have deterministic ammo drops inside of Destiny no more just RNG screwing up that solo run just because you couldn't get a heavy ammo brick to drop now in some of the gameplay that Bungie showed during the live stream they also showed off one of the new Banees that is being added in Edge of Fate literally Greg has a shield and it looks like these shields are impenetrable pretty much the only way they could counter these guys is by getting them to rotate around to then hit him in the back no lie Ellis this looks crazy you can imagine in like a Grandmaster Nightfall an unstoppable champion literally eye blasting you while simultaneously having a shield it sounds disgusting now another bane that wasn't mentioned but we noticed in the background gameplay portion of the live stream was Screber that's right fellas mini Screes are back let me just say this there is no other entity in all of Destiny that has ruined my Grandmaster run more than a damn mini screed and what's so crazy about this is it appears that it spawns in from other enemies and then when you kill those screes it causes additional screes to spawn in as well talk about an absolute nightmare now one of the more controversial parts of the stream was the portion about weapon damage and damage resistance bonuses that are being granted by new gear fellas you heard that right new gear will literally give you more damage and more damage resistance now it was funny cuz Bungie said "This is just a cherry on top." Brother this is way more than a cherry at the top end your builds can have 15% more damage resistance and do 10% more damage this is not a small amount guys this is substantial which is going to heavily incentivize all of us to go after the new stuff now immediately I was met with cross this is just sunsetting but let me just be real this is way better than sunsetting because sunsetting was literally hey your gear is garbage you can't use it oh here's this new gear which is essentially the exact same gear that you just got rid of the only difference is this has a new watermark you see what I'm saying at first when I saw this though I was like "Oh my god really Bungie are you really doing this?" But the more I think about it dude I'm kind of hyped i don't know man i'm like "Okay all right you want me to go for the highest tier gear to get the most bonuses all righty then i'm game." Now these percentage bonuses also scale based off the tier of that gear so for weapons at tier one you get a 2% bonus but at tier five you get a 10% bonus to your damage for that specific weapon so without a doubt here guys having the higher tier gears both for your weapons and your armor is going to make a significant difference now Bungie even took this further they have a curated list of both old armor and weapons called featured gear they can also access these benefits this is a list of exotics that they showed off and I'm kind of iffy on this one here guys i don't really know how I feel about it in some ways I see the purpose of this it's essentially like saying "Hey you new player you who probably doesn't even know Polaris lance is a nasty weapon we're here here's this feature list." And you see Polaris lance there on the feature list therefore you should probably give it a go and then see what exotic armor pieces might synergize with Polaris Lance and the Scorch and ignitions and all that jazz my only issue with this is that what about the exotic that isn't on this list what about the exotic that Bungie may have overlooked and let me just say Bungie does not catch everything hence why in the past we have gotten breakout meta exotics that Bungie had to quickly nerf because that exotic in that given time frame synergize maybe in some crazy way with this artifact mod or new aspect or new subclass fragments whatever the point is I don't know how I feel about the sandbox being boxed into these weapons as well as these exotic armors and being told "Hey here you go this is what you should be using this season." And if you don't then you're going to be doing less damage look if I'm the only one with this concern y'all let me know i'm actually game for the tier system the tiered weapons and the getting the higher tiers and the doing more damage and the taking less damage i'm fine with that it's just that featured exotic list i'm a little iffy about which I know some of you are probably like that's a sizable list look man I just don't like being boxed in i don't like being controlled now Bungie also jumped around and showed different artifact mods and you can see here some of the synergies from Strand and Solar some of these even have gameplay loops that will loop back into each other but during the stream DMG said that the next major update there is going to be another row now I'm assuming that's going to be during Ash and Iron which will be this expansion's major update which will roll out September the 9th now in game the artifact says 116 days which actually puts us at October the 18th which doesn't really make a lot of sense considering that's on a Saturday so I'm just going to assume that we shouldn't really trust that day count in game now this seems to be taking a page directly out of episodes keep in mind episodes would roll out we would get the artifact mods the first batch which would be our big batch of mods and then we would get a row with each consecutive act after that bungie also mentioned that they're going to be adding more exotics to the featured gear pool and they're going to be introducing more seasonal mods over the time frame of a given season so guys that's just about everything we gleaned from Bungie's live stream first off I do want to just highlight what I really did like about this live stream as Bungie live streams have actually been a topic of conversation amongst the community because in the last year Bungie has moved away from their vi style delivery which would be like these 30 to 40minute packed edited videos delivering everything that was coming in an expansion with small dialogues from game directors creative directors narrative directors and then after the VI do there would be like a dev discussion and a Q&A session that could take place between the community and the developers themselves what I've noticed over the past year is that there seems to be this move away from like the highly edited vi style to more of like a discussion style between developers now I would say that Destiny has still been bringing pretty good information with each of their live streams marathon was probably the one that just aired on too much discussion there was even at one point during that stream where it was asked "Who is your favorite runner?" which by the way is is an okay question to ask but everyone was wanting to see gameplay they were wanting to see cutscenes they want to see information if you look at things like Path of Exile and GGG it's like information overload every time they drop a video with that being said though I do believe that Bungie's formats with yesterday's stream started off pretty strong they opened up with their three-minute vaid do explaining the history of Kepler the House of Exile the Aonians and then we transition into developers talking about the new updates which I would say in this particular announcement was probably a good thing as a lot of this was sandbox focus but I completely understand the sentiment in the community where this felt like rehashed information and I think a lot of this just has to do with us content creators i'm not saying that we're bad guys but we were given a very unusual embargo time this year than in previous years you see normally when we go play new content like for instance last year the final shape we do it very close to launch we get our content we get our embargo date which is normally just a week before the launch of the expansion and then when Bungie takes front and center stage everything they show is completely new this year was interesting because everything they showed was stuff that we already showed to many of you many weeks ago matter of fact the embargo time this year was a whole month and a week before the launch of Edge of Fate which is a tremendous amount of runtime this makes it unfortunately more difficult for Bungie themselves as instead of being met with hype during their live streams when showing off some of the new goodies coming in the next expansion they're instead met with a community that says "Hey we've already seen this bungie show us something different." This also doesn't help the fact that it does seem like there is a pull back in content going into Edge of Fate and that's right because Edge of Fate and Renegades are actually going to be two mini expansions in a year versus the one big expansion and those two mini expansions are going to be something around Shadowke keep size tag on the fact that one of the biggest changes coming in Edge of Fates isn't exactly new new content but instead quality of life updates and you understand why people are just not that hyped you got folks that want to see crazy new destinations outside of our galaxy a reign of exotics a potential new subclass or even subclass changes as many people have pointed out that we should have gotten a stasis or a strand super and maybe even some more aspects i will say me as a Destiny veteran I'm excited about the tier system i'm excited about the sandbox changes and I love quality of life changes because it makes the game overall better without a doubt we need a system where new players and returning players can jump back into the content we need a simplified system where damage is the same across the board and you're not getting crazy damage values that make no sense think about it right now when you go inside of any content in the game you're like "Yo my hand cannon it's doing 20,000 damage." Currently right now in Destiny that means nothing you're like "What 20,000 okay relative to what this squishing of damage values and equalizing it across the game something that should have happened a long time ago but I'm happy it's happening now in Edge of Fate but keep in mind there was another year where Bungie gave us a ton of quality of life updates arguably one of the best years when it came to quality of life changes and you know what year that was lightfall that's the issue here guys quality of life updates may be sexy to me but for the vast majority of players that are looking to jump back into Destiny they're looking for something sexy something that's like yo I got to come back now and that's what I would say Bungie in this next live stream the next TWABS blog posts whatever whatever spice you might be hiding whatever future content you were planning on saving now is the time to talk about it if you've got these sweeping subclass super and ability changes coming in Renegades it's a good time to talk about it now if there's some substantial vault upgrade that's coming down the road which Bungie has already hinted at some of those details would be nice to be talked about now destiny and Bungie needs a dub because the amount of comments I've seen from folks saying "Yo I'm just going to skip this expansion i've already refund it yawn call me back when they actually add something new." You see a lot of people would say those people are just toxic but for Bungie those are paying customers toxic or not and from the words of Justin Truman the worst state your community can end up in is a state of apathy that right there is the thing that Bungie needs to do everything they can to avoid believe me this is by no means me promoting toxicity but the moment people just don't care anymore that right there is the most concerning state to be in and over the next two weeks Bungie is going to have to really do something to make people care so guys that's it that's your breakdown and those are my thoughts let me know in the comments below what you think fellas and ladies thank you all for coming and watching and as always slap
