Destiny 2 Portal Event & Double Bonus Focus

  • Destiny 2 has a new portal event modifier active with the latest weekly reset.

  • Modifier: Double Bonus Focus, live during the final week of the Dawning 2025 event.

  • This modifier affects portal bonus‑focus loot, making certain rewards drop twice from eligible activities.

  • The video by Rick Kackis explains how Double Bonus Focus works, how it interacts with Dawning rewards, and which portal activities and Grandmaster Nightfalls are most efficient to farm.

  • Overall takeaway: this reset is a prime opportunity to grind high‑value portal weapons and Theropodent armorbefore the Dawning 2025 event ends.

Double Bonus Focus Modifier Details

  • Core behavior:

    • The first bonus focus awarded per account per day drops a second time automatically.

    • This applies only to items specifically flagged as bonus focus rewards in the portal activity modifier screen.

    • The modifier has appeared in previous Destiny 2 portal events and consistently means extra loot from qualifying bonus‑focus drops.

  • Effect on loot:

    • For portal activities that list a featured weapon or featured armor set as bonus focus, your first clear of the day can yield two copies of that item instead of one.

    • This double reward primarily benefits targeted farming of meta portal gear, including Theropodent PvE armor and specific portal weapons.

  • Display and activation:

    • On first login after reset, many players only see a Dawning reminder popup about the event ending soon.

    • That popup tells you to visit Eva Levante in the Tower, but if all your Dawning milestones and quests are complete, there is nothing new to pick up.

    • To reveal Double Bonus Focus, you may need to:

      • Return to the character select screen.

      • Re‑log into your character.

      • After re‑logging, a second popup appears announcing that Double Bonus Focus starts now.

    • Once active, the modifier is visible in the portal modifiers screen under the event modifiers list.

  • Important note:

    • Double Bonus Focus does not change normal loot pools; it only affects items flagged as bonus focus in the portal interface.

Interaction With Dawning 2025 Event Loot

  • Dawning reminder popup:

    • The Dawning message emphasizes the event wrapping up and suggests visiting Eva Levante, but this is just a generic reminder.

    • Players who are already caught up on Dawning 2025 content will not see a new Dawning quest, objective, or special Dawning portal challenge from Eva.

  • Solo Ops: Conflux test example:

    • In the Solo Ops (Conflux) node, the featured bonus loot includes:

      • The Evening SL4 / SI4 sidearm as the portal featured bonus‑focus weapon.

      • A Distorted Dawning engram listed as an additional Dawning event reward.

    • In the portal modifier screen, both the Evening sidearm and the Distorted Dawning engram appear together in the bonus rewards section.

  • Test results for Double Bonus Focus vs Dawning engrams:

    • Running Conflux with a high grade produced:

      • One Distorted Dawning engram from the Dawning 2025 event.

      • Normal activity loot, such as a Permafrost weapon.

    • Only a single Dawning reward dropped; the Distorted Dawning engram was not duplicated by the Double Bonus Focus portal modifier.

    • The Evening SI4 sidearm did duplicate:

      • One copy dropped directly from the final chest as standard portal bonus‑focus loot.

      • A second copy appeared in the Postmaster, confirming Double Bonus Focus worked on the sidearm.

  • Conclusion for Dawning 2025 synergy:

    • Double Bonus Focus applies to portal bonus‑focus items (like Evening SI4) but does not multiply Dawning engrams.

    • You still earn your normal Dawning rewards while using the portal, but the extra value this week comes from doubling portal‑specific bonus focus gear, not from doubling Dawning 2025 event engrams.

Grandmaster Activities & Bonus Focus Weapons

  • Birthplace of the Vile Grandmaster Nightfall:

    • The current Grandmaster features Birthplace of the Vile as an activity with a bonus‑focus Nightfall weapon.

    • Completing this Grandmaster grants a guaranteed Masterworked Sarpedon D with the Accelerated Assault origin trait, explicitly labeled as a bonus focus reward.

  • Potential Double Bonus Focus interaction:

    • In theory, because Sarpedon D is a bonus‑focus drop, Double Bonus Focus should grant two Masterworked Sarpedon D rolls for your first qualifying clear of the week.

    • This exact interaction was not directly tested in the video, so the double Sarpedon D drop remains unconfirmed but highly likely based on how the modifier behaved with the Evening sidearm.

  • Recommendation for Grandmaster players:

    • Guardians comfortable with Grandmaster Nightfall difficulty should strongly consider:

      • Running at least one clear of Birthplace of the Vile this week.

      • Treating it as an opportunity for a potential double high‑stat, Masterworked Sarpedon D farm.

    • Even if only one drops, it is still a guaranteed, curated Grandmaster weapon tied to the Double Bonus Focus portal event window.

Recommended Grind: Theropodent Armor Farming

  • Why Theropodent armor is a priority:

    • Theropodent is the new portal armor set and is frequently listed as a bonus focus in specific portal activities.

    • The set is described as one of the strongest PvE armor sets in Destiny 2 right now for survivability and consistency.

    • During this Double Bonus Focus week, when Theropodent is the listed bonus focus, you have a significantly increased chance to get multiple pieces quickly.

  • Key perks and behavior:

    • The two‑piece set bonus grants roughly 10% damage resistance whenever your health is regenerating.

    • This benefit triggers off any health gain, not just natural recovery:

      • Synergizes extremely well with Warlock Devour builds using Feed the Void: every time Devour activates and heals you, the Theropodent damage resistance window (around 7–8 seconds) begins.

      • Works with leg armor mods that start health regeneration on Orb of Power pickup, giving near‑constant uptime in orb‑heavy PvE builds.

    • In practice, Theropodent feels like a free, automatic survivability buff, somewhat similar to getting an “amplified‑style” safety effect every time your health begins to come back.

    • This makes Theropodent an outstanding choice for high‑end PvE content, portal grinds, and Grandmaster activities where staying alive is critical.

  • Suggested Theropodent farming approach:

    • Check the portal screen daily for activities where Theropodent armor appears as the listed bonus focusduring this Double Bonus Focus week.

    • Prioritize those nodes so your first bonus‑focus reward of the day can potentially drop two Theropodent pieces.

    • Combine your Theropodent armor farm with portal weapons you still need, allowing Double Bonus Focus to double‑dip on both armor and weapon grinds.

    • Consider pairing Theropodent with Devour Warlock, orb‑generating builds, and other health‑regeneration tools to fully exploit the set bonus once you obtain it.

Practical Action Items for This Week

  • Log into Destiny 2, then:

    • If you only see the Dawning reminder, go back to the character select screen and re‑enter to trigger the Double Bonus Focus popup.

    • Open the portal modifiers screen and confirm that Double Bonus Focus is listed as an active event modifier.

  • Portal farming priorities:

    • Run portal activities that list your desired portal armor sets (especially Theropodent) or portal weapons as bonus focus drops.

    • For weapons, prioritize Solo Ops: Conflux when chasing the Evening SI4 sidearm, and always check your Postmaster for duplicated copies created by Double Bonus Focus.

  • High‑end content:

    • If you are capable of Grandmaster Nightfall runs, attempt Birthplace of the Vile to try for a potential double Masterworked Sarpedon D with Accelerated Assault, keeping in mind this exact interaction is still untested but probable.

  • Overall plan:

    • Use this final week of Dawning 2025 and the active Double Bonus Focus portal event modifier to secure key Theropodent PvE armor, target portal event weapons, and potentially boost your Grandmaster lootbefore the event ends.

What is up guys, it's your boy Rick Gackus and today we have a quick video going over something you're absolutely going to want to know about. So with the new weekly reset that just happened in Destiny 2, we actually have a new portal event modifier that went live. And this is going to help you get some very juicy loot within the final week of the dawning 2025 event. And so, let's get started!

Alright, now, upon first logging in, this is the pop-up I got just about the dawning ending soon, telling me to go to Ivalovante. I actually went there, and there's nothing new. I don't know why this pop-up says, visit Ivalovante in the tower. You absolutely do not need to if you're already up to date on your dawning stuff.

But I actually re-logged into the game. I went to the character screen and logged back in. And then I got this pop-up.

This is the interesting thing we are going to talk about. So this actually says that... Double bonus focus starts now.

So as you can see right here, if I take a look within the portal in the modifiers section, I actually have double bonus focus. Now this says the first bonus focus awarded per day drops a second time. So we've had this in the game several times before and it's honestly great.

It literally just means More loot. However, because the dawning is also ongoing, we have a very interesting question about this modifier. And that is, if I go to Solo Ops and I go to the Conflux, which is the activity with a featured bonus loot item, the Evening SL4 or SI4, you can see that we also have a distorted dawning engram as a bonus reward.

And if I actually go to the modifier screen where I'm changing my modifiers, you can see the bonus rewards pop up. Both the evening sidearm and that dawning engram are in the same section as bonus rewards. So does the double bonus loot portal modifier also affect dawning engrams? Well, I tested it out with this conflux, made sure to get a high grade, and as you can see right here, I got a bunch of rewards out of this final chest. I pick it all up and And I only get one Dawning reward, which makes sense.

There was one distorted Dawning engram. I just got this Permafrost here. Now, you might be wondering about said bonus focus loot. It isn't here right now.

Well, it was just in the Postmaster. As you can see, two Evening SI4 sidearms, guys. So there you have it.

Now, there's another very interesting question that I wasn't able to test and that is what about the Grandmaster bonus focus? So right now we have Birthplace of the Vile. You get a guaranteed Masterworked Sarpedon D with that Accelerated Assault special origin trait that is classified as a bonus focus.

You should get two of these during this final week. And that's actually pretty cool. Again, didn't have the time to test it out for this video, but definitely consider running that to maybe get two of those bad boys.

But on top of that, something else I would highly recommend, the thing I'm gonna leave you guys in this video with, is this is a great week. This is a great time with this double bonus focus to grind Theropodent Armor. This is the new portal armor set you can see some of the places it's a bonus focus on today and this is one of the best PvE armor sets in the entire game.

Why? Well, the two-piece bonus is going to provide extra damage resistance. It's only about 10% but it occurs when you regenerate health, which is all the time. Think about you get shot eventually you're gonna regenerate health. But the really crazy part is that it triggers on any sort of health regeneration, health gain.

So right here with my Warlock, I'm running Feed the Void for Devour. When I trigger Devour, it will trigger those like... 7-8 seconds of ferropodent.

So it's basically like getting a free amplified from your armor set every time you gen health or for example you put on the leg armor mod that lets you gain start regenerating health when you pick up an orb of power that's gonna trigger ferropodent as well. So just an unbelievably useful and consistent set for staying alive more in PvE especially. And so guys, there you have it.
